Default to all of you doubters on weight!!!!!!!

gm knows about the weight, they are not stupid... look at the gear ratios in the m6 and a6 transmissions that it will come out with..... 1st gear on the a6 is 4.03!!! compared to the 3.06 in the a4 2002 model, and the 2010 m6 is even higher than that!!! all of us wrench heads knows that gear ratios are multiplication's of torque..... that being said if you just throw some 3.73's 3.90's or 4.10's instead of the 3.27's it comes with stock, you could see a stock camaro with just a gear change and drag radials pull a low 7sec 1/8 and bolt ons easily in 6's in the 1/8..... with all that gear i promise you it will cut some AWESOME 60ft times..... watch and see, the new camaro will be one bad **** guaranteed and yall shall see this spring.....

the zr1 has lower gears for a reason.

why have a tall gear when youre just going to blow the tires off? The Zr1 looks a bit hard to launch perfect without melting the rubber off. Plus the zr1 has very long stretched out shift points thanks to those gears. Less time shifting while still in power range.

im not being cocky or retarded but why do people think thats too fast?
i had an 02 ss with a m6, trex cam, full exhaust and 4.10's.... when i took out the m6 for a built turbo 350 with 3800 stall i put 3.42's in it and i ran 7.30's with just a trex, exhaust and th350 with stall,... now i know thats not comparing apples to apples but one of my best friends also had an 02 ss but it was an a4 completely stock, all he did was put a 3800 stall in the 4l60e and 4.10's and he ran the same time's i ran, 7.30's and i was mad cuz i had a cam and full exhaust he was stock other than a stall and 4.10's..... but looking at the times he was able to pull off with a stall and gear only car amazes me so looking at the gear ratios in the a6 for 2010 im sure with it should cut fast 60ft times and fast 1/8 times with just a gear change RIGHT??? it would only make sense to me...

Did you actually read any of the complaints?
Its not about accelerating in a strait line, the weight complaints are about the cars overall performance and feel.
Handling, braking AND acceleration (and gas mileage) all benefit greatly from lower weight.

What he said.......

Besides if you were to put 4.10s in a 5th gen then 1st gear would be worthless.

actually, the ratios in the tremec 6 speed in the SS have almost the same ratios as the last gen... only the auto and V6 6 speed have the real short ratios...

Won't fit 4.10's. It will hold a max 3.9 something. Which is fine.

true but i wasnt talking about the gas mileage or handling i was talking about the people complaing about straight line performance saying its gonna be a terd,... i mean its american muscle.... if you want gas mileage and handling go put a turbo on a honda civic or pay up for the vette...

and there should be no reason for it not to "hook up" especially at the track ala track compound, and drag radials and you could always do a little tweaking of the suspension but with drag radials and the IRS and at a track it should hook up pretty well

The new Camaro might make it in the 7s at best. A Zr1 will do atleast low 7's on street tires. I'd say it might go 6s on slicks and a good launch.

Like it or not this car has to compete with all the other cars in its segment (not only the Mustang GT and Challenger, but the 350Z, G37, STi, EVO and possibly the BMW 1 series as well).
Unfortunately Camaro fanboys alone are not going to be enough to support the new car. GM needs to attract buyers from all over, and that means they need to build a car that delivers what the competition does.
This new car is by no means a great drag platform. Just as you say "buy a vette" if you want handling, I can just as easily say "buy a fox body mustang" if all you want to do is go fast in a strait line.

And your 02 probably race weight was probably 3600lbs or so, mine is 3730 but I have a 12 bolt. With a Trex you probably had 500hp(Flywheel) too. Compare that to probably 4100lbs race weight(isnt dry 3800lbs) and 430hp(flywheel) of the new Camaoro.

Racing Calculators say 12.35 at 108mph for the new Camaro. Roughly a 7.80 1/8th mile. I ran the same ET in my car with a 7.9 1/8th.

A 7.30 1/8th mile should relate to a 11.40. There is no way in hell a new Camaro would be able to come close to that.

If any completely stock Camaro SS runs a 7.30 1/8 mile completely stock and you and I both agree that the time is legit.(like tracks tech sign off that it is stock and say that the run was done, plus a video) Ill pay pal you $100.

Well, the GM 6 speed automatic trans (6L80) was out and well into production (in Corvettes, Cadillac STS-Vs/XLR-Vs and some trucks) long before the Camaro specs were ever released so it's not as if the Camaro's weight was a direct reason for it's steep first gear/gearing but I'm wouldn't doubt that it (along with the weight of the new CTS-V with it's 6L90) was at least a consideration maybe.

Not likely, it will take more than just gears and tires to get an automatic 5th gen SS into the low 7s...add a higher stall converter and headers/CAI on top of that at a minimum if the car is to remain at stock weight while attempting it.

hahaha, that must have been one hell of a Factory Freak then.

Your friend either had more mods than he told you or hes lieing. There is no way in hell a 300whp car would run low 7s in the 1/8th probably low 11s in the 1/4. The only car I see that could have a chance doing that would be a Dragster. The racing calculators(which are dead on with what I have ran in my car) say 3600lbs with 350hp(flywheel) say your buddies car should run 12.60s.

Your leaving something out.

According to gm the new camaro ss lapped the ring 2 seconds faster than the new turbo cobalt ss. Check out car and driver's lightning 2008 lap to see how well the cobalt did. Theoretically, the camaro ss should be as fast or faster than the cobalt which would put it in some pretty insane company for a ~$30K car in a test that measures handling, braking and acceleration. As for the gas mileage, it is suppose to be slightly better than the fourth gens. New cars weigh more, especially ones that have to remain affordable to the average buyer. I read the complaints and think they are unwarranted. The new ss will out perform the fourth gens in every way yet people are complaining because they don't like the look of its weight written on paper.

I've seen high 11.9's from A4, ls1 (stock) cars with gears.
