400 Horsepower has already been available since the '00 model year
(IE) Cobra R 5.4L 330 cid d.o.h.c. / rated @ 385 h.p. @6250 observed rearwheel h.p. was 376@5500 which should be over 400 flywheel h.p. Now i know the nay sayers are going to say it's a specialty model and they would be correct, but it still was brought to us by the same SVT engineers that built the standard 4.6 d.o.h.c. Why they didn't make this standard issue for the Mustang i have no idea ??? 500 hp, well you might have me there, maybe if they increased displacement to lets say in liter's: 5.7/6.0/6.2/7.0 like GM did or 5.7/6.1 /like Chrysler maybe we might make it there ?!?!.

It is right to compair the Vette to the mustang in any case. When was the last time you actually put 4 adults in a Mustang? Seriously those back seets are for kids and "Little people"

Ford needs to give the GT more HP.It's not going to be fair next year w/ a 422HP Camaro SS,425HP Challenger SRT8 and a 435HP Standard Vette. But atleast the Challenger R/T will be a good race for the GT.They should put atleast a unsupercharged 5.4 in a GT W/the same HP as the SS & SRT8.

From my understanding bean counters handcuffed SVT to a certain extent. The actual rating was 320 h.p. the '96-'98 Cobra's are rated @305 h.p. I have an issue of Hot Rod magazine that dynoed several cars rated @ 300 h.p-400+h.p. and the F-bodies actually made more power than the Corvette. Back to the topic :The show was pretty cool i wonder what is going to be revealed in Jan '09 as was mentioned on the show ???
I'm not in this fight or asking you to verify anything, but could you direct me to any of this information online? I would like to read more about this if possible.

I think the syling looked better before on the mustang. Now it just looks all smushed in the front. What's Ford thinking? Chevy should come out with a KR Camaro because its quite obvious they're gonna be!

We are discussing the 5.4 liter engine not the body it came in thank you Read what the individual said about power production not the vehicle it came in .

NO fight here dude only unbiased statements. It may take a moment but the article was in a Hot Rod magazine . I might have to peruse my collection for the actual issue month &year . I will see if it's available on the net.

Dude, google:
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/1999_musta...ra_horse_power
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Mustang_SVT_Cobra
http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forum...s-expired.html

And Fbodies did NOT make any more power over a same year Corvette. It may have put more power to the wheels because of less drive train loss though.

As with anything, there are Pro's and Con's. I think Ford made a mistake with the 4.6. It hardly makes crap for power, it takes a lot of money to make it fast! Been there, done that. I've owned a few Mustangs. They sound great and they definately have curb appeal but, I also think that they made a mistake making 800 versions of it...CS/GT, Roush, Saleen, Shelby GT, Shelby GT500, GT350, and so on. You make that many versions of a car, of course you have options but damn, what about resale value?? The Camaro and T/A on the other hand, still a great looking car and has everything else to go along with it. Great power! Hell they make way more power with 1 cam then a Mustang makes with 4...I love both but I wouldn't buy another Mustang...

Maybe Ford is banking on GM to go bankrupt and crash. If the 3 don't get assistants GM will be first to fall.

you said that the 5.4 was brought to you guys from the SVT engineers...really? last time i checked the Cobra R had a production of like 300 cars...and i have yet to see the 5.4 in ANY GT from the factory...we are discussing the GT in this thread aren't we? and the fact that it has **** for power with that 4.6 right? and the fact that the 5.4 isn't in that specific car right? If i remember correctly the guy that you responded to said if they made anything close to 400 it wouldn't be so bad...but they don't and the 5.4 will not be found in the GT anytime soon...if ever...so please stfu and stop bringing in specialty cars with the engine that you would want ford to use.

I think they are all headed for bankruptcy, and no "assistance" will help prevent that (only delay it). They will go into a restructuring period, and hopefully come back a bit better than before (all three companies).

I hope they GM/Chrysler/& Ford have a real solution now that the bail out seems like a pipe dream. Outwise we might be having a discussion about the good old days of Mustangs & F-bodies.

Going bankrupt doesn't mean they go away. Without a bailout they will be forced to restructure, if they're just given a blank check they'll just end up operating in a manner that got them here in the first place. Filing bankruptcy won't be the end of the world for any of the big 3 if it comes to that. The government is making the big 3 come up with a plan to show them how a bailout will help change the industry before they actually vote on it next month.
