Default Will You Buy a 5.3L Camaro?

Yes another poll, there is a ton of speculation as to what engines and such will be avaliable, I've heard a ton of stuff. Basically I'm just trying to see how many people would still buy a Camaro if the only V8 Engine choice was a 5.3L, I've heard there will be two engines, but also that the 5.3L will be the only one. Personally I will NOT buy the 08-09 Camaro in any trim without at least an LS2 as an option. I think it's un-Camaro like not to offer an LS2, wanted to see what others thought.

There is no reason for GM to not offer an LSx motor in the new Zetas. I can see them putting the 5.3L in a mid-trim model, and then throwing the 6.0L or better in the higher end ones. I'm pretty sure they will throw a 3.9L in the base model to compete with the V6 Mustangs.

There's no way a 5.3L would be the only V8.

I think it makes sense to use a 5.3L as a mid-level engine, so I voted yes.

However, I will probably buy a 6.2L version.

Yes it would make sense in the mid-range, I'm just trying to see who will buy if it happend to be the only engine, or who would prefer the 5.3L over other V8's? I would love to see an RS with a 5.3L .

If GM decides that a 5.3 is going to be the ONLY V-8 offered then they might as well call off the Camaro right now. I will be mucho disappionted if the mid-level engine isn't an LS2. The idea here is to SMOKE Mustang GTs. Not just hang with them.

I am 99% certain that it won't even be an option. With the mustang rumored to have a 5.8L by the time the Camaro comes out, the only thing the 5.3L would be good for is an RS model below the SS and Z28. Regardless, if it was the only V8 option for some crazy reason, I would still buy it and just stuff a better engine in it. Not too uncommon to do that.

HELL NO I will not buy an LS4!!! However, it is a smart idea for those that want a V8 that is cheap. GM really should offer this engine in 300HP trim for High School students and the like. I would have driven one in HS for sure!!! But, I want an LS7 and that is what I will wait for!!!

It is unlikely the 5.3 will show up at all, and never had a shot at being the only V8.

Keep dreaming about the LS7 being offered right away. I can see it maybe in the second year of production or if they decide to push for a 40th anniversary model and start production in 2007. Let's just get the show on the road and get them to the dealerships first.

i dont think they will offer a 5.3 its too small no replacement for displacement if they would have kept the camaro in 03 i think they would have put the LS2 in it to be more of a race with the cobras just my .02

No Way would I buy a new 5.3 Camaro. at least a 6.0. If the camaro came out with 5.3 I would not buy it new. If they didn't offer a larger engine by 3 years I would buy a used one and put a bigger engine in it but not a new one with a 5.3.

I wouldn't buy a new camaro with a 5.3L. I would hold out for a LS2, or an LS7 (Hopefully)

Well...seeing that there is not even official word of the Camaro production we are all guessing. If a LS7 engine finally finds its way in the Camaro it would be on a 2011-12 model...I doubt it would be earlier. Since GM lately seems to be on crack I would not be surprised to see a 5.3 as the only V8 option though...

Being that they have the perfectly viable LS2 - the very engine they used for the concept (without even any signifcant power increase, if any, over a crate LS2), which is relatively unusual for the type of concept it is, unless it is intended for production, I don't see them not using it in the production vehicle. However, if the 5.3 were the only engine offered I'd still consider it, especially it it were outputting 350-400+ ponies, which it could easily be modified to in a production form.

LS4 in a cheaper-to-insure Rally Sport trim would be nice. I wouldn't buy it, but I don't think it shouldn't be offered. If it isn't a 400+ HP LS2 with a 6-speed auto available, IRS and the lines and interior of the concept I think I'll stick with what I've got (4th gen) and fork over my money to Dodge for a new Challenger, unless I have enough for a C6 at the time. There's no reason a top trim SS shouldn't have an LS7. In the old glory days f-bodys and vettes had engines with the same outputs, the only difference was a Vette was a vette and not a camaro lol. If you want a vette, and can afford a vette, you'll get a vette, even if the camaro is cheaper and just as fast. An LS7 5th gen might drag like a Z06, but it won't come close to it on a race track.

you would like to think that gm has learned their lesson with all of this and would offer people what they have been wanting. i still feel that you never have a second chance to make that first impression, but if gm does this right they may be able to prove that saying wrong. by not offering consumers (weather they have always owned a camaro, have had one in the past or its their first "fast car")the power and performance they request/expect, gm would just be opening the door for the folks who are looking for a performance car to look at other options.
