The Buick V8 is a badass, and it wieghed 150lbs less that the Chevy, and Ive NEVER heard a motor take a cam like a Buick can. I found a great site that compares alot of engines. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buick_V8_engine scroll down to the bottom of the page and youll find other big motors.
turd is just relative. lol compared to a ford a 350 2 barrel is a race engine I will always be a fan of the big bore camp, and always will. I think power starts with having a huge bore, Buicks had a 4.3xx" bore vs the Chevy 4.25" and the Poncho's 4.1xx". 440ci Mopars made the big power they did because they also had a 4.3xx" bore. big inches and lots of RPM

I'm not convinced they will come back with the GTO. The Camaro we know is coming but only speculation on the GTO.

I'll go with the Camaro if they produce both. Even though the current GTO is a real wolf in sheeps clothing.

GM registered the Firebired name (supposley did that)( not saying there is going to be a Firebired either). IF there was going to be a 09/10 GTO I really think we would have seen/ heard a lot more information that is Firm. IF they are coming out with it they are keeping a tighter lid on it than the Camaro and there was much Hype about wanting the Camaro back and now it is.

I think some of those who like the new GTO's have a fantasy about them coming back. I own one as well but there has been no announcement the GTO is coming back. Plus with the lack luster sales of the GTO the last 3 years, I don't see GM even attempting to sell the car since it would compete with the Camaro. The GTO just will not be able to generate enough sales while the Camaro will have no problems. Lets not forget the new Challenger and I don't see the GTO competing with that either.

all ive heard is that GM is planning to build a rear drive grand pix with a 6.0 V8 same as the GTO. So basically the car would be a smaller GTO but will not be called such (Sorry die-hard GTO fans)

all in all Camaro all the way.

If they build a rear drive 6.0 powered car smaller than the GTO why wouldn't it be called the firebird?

Well in my opinion, back in the day the GTO was a higher echelon vehicle, and thusly had higher performance levels.

So if the past is any indication of the future I think the GTO will have maybe like 30 to 50 more ponies.

But what will probably happen is the GTO is basically going to be the Firebird to the Camaro and will have the exact same performance offerings

I would like to see the GTO as a more upscale model to compete with the BMW 3 series sport coupes, while the Carmaro stays the more affordable to compete with the Mustangs. Also a more powerful version would grow the name but I think it would compete too much with the CTS-V and Vette to be made

the GTO is a higher end car than the camaro. they market kinda to the same people but not really. just think about how many GTOs u see around and how many Maros. With the GTO u BUY ur power/performance and with the camaro, u make it.

Yeah, I was holding out hope until I read some stuff from fbodfather on another site. Because GM doesn't have the market share it used to have, they can't have two models that will overlap. There will be no firebird. The GTO will probably be built on the same platform but it will be larger than the camaro and seat 4 adults, so it will target different buyers.

Dammit, now I'm gonna have to buy some chevy stuff to put up in the garage so the camaro doesn't look outta place.

Well I was down at the local Pontiac buick gmc dealership today (brother was buying a new truck) and I was talking to the 12th year sales manager, 07 is the last model year for the gto this was stated in hotrod an issue or so ago also in a sidebar, and the (coming from the sales manager) firebird/trans am is supposed to be introduced the model year after the camaro comes back in 08/09 if everything goes accordingly

06 is the last year for the current GTO, there is no 07. It has been known for a long time that the current GTO would only be a 3 year model run. There are currently no plans to bring the firebird/trans am back, regardless of what some sales manager says. All signs point to a new GTO being made on the same platform as the Camaro, but it will be aimed at a different group of buyers.
