LOL. I don't exactly know if that is a sarcastic comment busting my ***** but whatever.

no, its going to fall because idiots buy these cars and kill themselves, and the government is going to step in and say something about it.

That had nothing to do with the last muscle car wars, so I doubt it will have anything to do with the current ones. People just like to think of things in analogies. There is no "fact" that states the current hp wars will end. We will just have to wait and see.

Who said anything about there not being a midrange Camaro? News from the insiders seem to say otherwise. The midrange is likely to be a 400ish hp 6.2 LS3 Camaro, at a Mustang GT pricepoint. Who wouldn't want that?

Yeah I agree however we are seeing some very concerning issues in society that could potentially put at end to it!

I have a question. Does anyone know why chevy put off the camaro for 2009? Why some many years after the introduction of the concept? I mean even the callenger is coming earlier.

i know there's no fact, but hp ratings are something the government CAN and WILL regulate if they keep skyrocketing like they are now. how safe do you think the roads will be when everyone is driving 400-500 hp cars in 3 to 5 years? there are too many idiots on the roads today that dont need to be driving a car that has over 40 hp, much less 400.

How many 400-500hp cars are there out now? When you drive down the road, how many of them do you actually see? 3-5 years isn't going to change the automotive scene that much. There has never even been any conclusive evidence the hp kills. Tons of guys kill themselves in Civics. People are just overreacting.

If power levels come down, it could be because the EPA just recently was given the ability to control how much CO2 is allowed to come out of the tailpipe. That could very well be a huge pain in the *** for automotive manufacturers to deal with, given CO2 is one of the primary emissions of even a well running internal combustion engine.

400-500 HP cars....
BMW M-series
Higher end mercedes
High end Italian cars
Aston Martin
Jaguar
Dodge Viper
srt-vehicles
Ford's mod-in-factory mustangs
Lexus (a couple models are close enough)
There are also MANY pre-production cars that have that kind of power.

Thank you for kind of proving my point. None of those cars on you list are seen on the road with any sort of regularity. It is not worth worrying about excessive horsepower levels at the moment.

I wouldn't worry so much about CO2 as I would the new CAFE regulations. This has almost entirely put a halt on GM's new line of rear drive cars. If the camaro is going to have major performance and HP it needs good gas mileage. Auto makers will soon be required to have a corporate fuel economy that may be difficult for GM to adhere to. Ive got my fingers crossed that they can find a solution.

Anyway back on topic:

Base V6: VVT 3.6L (6L80 or T56) 275hp
Upgrade V6: 3.6L VVT/DOD and performance exhaust (6L80 and T56) 300hp
SS V8: 6.2L VVT/DOD with 1LE perf suspension (6L80 or TR6060) 430hp (likely rated at 420)
Z28 V8: 6.2L VVT/DOD with more rear end gear/perf exhaust (6L80 or TR6060) 435 hp
or
Z28 will have the same setup as the upcoming super vette: 6.2L roots blower running less boost 500-550hp versus the vette's 650. The Z28 will likely cost $40+ and around 45 loaded up (similar to a shelby cobra).

Base V6 needs to be $19500 or 20k MSRP.
SS needs to be $27k MSRP and cost less than $35k loaded up.
V6 should make 21+/30+ mpg
V8 should make 19/28

No it hasn't. And yes, I am aware of what Bob Lutz said.

Yeah, I understand what you were referring to. GM's rwd cars are not in any real danger.

I think future NEW GM RWD cars are in trouble. 2011 marks 100 years for Chevrolet. Hopefully they will build many special vehicles. This is very close to the time when I expect to pull the plug, selling Chevrolets.

Forget the Cord, Oldsmoble and Caddy started building FWD cars is 1966 I think. The Japs were here the industry found themselves required to build FWD cars to keep up. More room, better normal driving traction, everyone needed to get one because they were better. Now GM is thinking of flip flopping back to RWD cars? No wonder the industry is screwed up.

No one suggested that GM plans to pull the plug on all of their front drivers. Also, are you serious in thinking that GM is going to pull the plug on Chevy??
