He doesn't.

It's impossible to make a down payment on a car you can't order yet.

Still some dirtbag dealers will still take your money.

My advice is not to give a dealer ONE PENNY until the car is able to be ordered.

There is a pre order list. A friend of mine is on it. There is a deposit required to be added to the list, im assuming that is the "down payment" the other guys is referring to?

I don't think there is going to be any wait or backorder for new camaro's. Maybe if you wanted something unique or special order, but GM wants and needs to sell lots of these in order to keep from having egg on their face. I've heard the number at 100,000 needed to justify keeping it alive.

I give it to mid summer and they'll start to offer inventives to clear 09 inventory to make room for 2010 models.

Mark my words.

Yeah our dealer asked if i wanted to put some money down on mine since i am number 2 on the list. they said they would match what i put down to offset the mark up. and i said fudge you cause i was smart and went to another dealer where i am number5 on the list with a guarantee of no dealer mark up.

My family owns dealerships- DONT BUY OR COMMIT TO ANYTHING THAT ISN'T CONCRETE. in other words, if theres no factory paperwork involved stay away because they are running a professional, legal, scam. If theres no ORDER CONFIRMATION from the GM factory where the camaro has ALREADY been built, then the dealership just got a free check. The way a pre-order works is the early cars like the first 10,000 off the assembly line just sit around and wait for a few years while the other cars from the first wave are built. They decide ok thee are going for sure in about a year we can offer them to the public. Some dealers may have these pre-order and have the ability to create a waiting list but thats a pretty big gamble. After all, seriously, how many honest dealerships do you know of? Trust an insider- most of them are into the business of making money and will cheat you cause the laws set up on their side.

I think pre ordering or paying money down to get on a waiting list is a rip off. I've had several friends do that on Corvettes. Once the dealer gets money down, they know they have a car sold to you so they sell the first cars to come in to other people. The people who put money down don't always get their cars first. Plus...you are going to pay a lot more than sticker price if you buy the first ones.

That's funny, considering the platform will have 28 months of production cars before the first Camaro is built.

Ok smart ***. Whatever year they designate it, by the end of the first year, you'll be able to get it for less than sticker. GM wants and needs to move a lot of these. They learned a tough lesson when they put the GTO's out there and they bombed. Dealers were intially trying to get 5-10k more than sticker the first few months of it being on the market. Once they realized that they were going to be well under the 12-15k a year mark, they started offering large rebates to try and empty dealer lots.

If GM wants to sell 100,000+ Camaros a year they are gonna have to price it the same or even a little less than the Mustang (which won't happen). That was the problem with the 4th gens, they were priced almost $5,000 more than the Mustang therefore the Mustang out sold the Camaro and Firebird combined. Just my .02
