I have a question, why not chuck a little 5.3 in between the new 6.2 and the v-6for some performance and economy. The LS4 isnt to bad of a motor they have in the Grand Prix and Impala. It would fit right in as a better alternative to the Mustang as far as price is concerned, get some semblance of economy for those who do use the heck out of their car as daily drivers and not cost an arm and a leg like their talking about making the v-8s. I thoughht i heard some flutter about the Gen 5 v-8 also coming online about that time. Well food for though anyhow.

The neglected factor...
If GM could figure out how to reduce the weight of their RWD cars (like their non-US competitors), they could easily offset the 1 mpg penalty. The new Camaro is a pig in terms of weight and anyone with a GM V6 is going to hate it.
As for engines...
My LS1 gets 26 mpg as my daily driver, and 28 on long trips. If they can do that with 1996 technology, then make a production variant with 600+ HP, there's plenty of room to boost the mileage.

The LS1 gets the economy it gets cause a lot of our cars are light. And some of us have 2.73's.
And the LS1 came out in 1997...so 1996 technology is kind of a reasonable guesstimate.

You guys need to stop taking all internet articles as facts.
This article is full of BS that the author made up.
GM has still said all along that the Camaro will be priced competitively with Mustangs.
Nowhere have they ever said that base V8s would be marked up.
For your own good, stop making things up based on an article that was also made up.

You list "overpopulation" and "homosexuals". Doesn't one problem solve the other there?

I can't understand why GM won't give us better info on engine options yet. The car will be on dealer lots in 12 months. It's time for them to let the cat out of the bag!

I don't understand why they built a concept and let everyone get hyped up and wait this many years to do something with it.

So many other cars (some by GM and others from other car companies) came out as concepts after the camaro concept and those cars are already on the street or near it. There is no real reason it isn't out already other than GM not stepping up to the plate after the concept. Almost no cars that make the buzz that the camaro did take this long after the concept debuts to go into production. It's been nothing but a mistake for GM not to start selling the 5th gen already, because it should have been on the streets as an 07 or 08 at the latest. They have been costing themselves money
