Default G8 GXP 13.0? camaro 13.4? wtf

What are your thoughts on the rated 1/4 mile of the gxp at 13.0 at 108 with a curb weight of 4050 and a rated horsepower of 402?

Is GM just underrating the camaro to surprise everyone or did they overrate this car?

how did they only pull a 13.4 at 108 with a 6 speed car weighing 200 pounds less and 20 more rated horsepower (which probably isnt even true but still)

Did they not bother to try and get a good time with the 6 speed? even so the auto only pulled a 13.3.

Am I missing something? rated times look like BS to me.

although pontiac always had the firehawk etc. rated at faster times than the camaro. maybe this is just a pontiac thing.

GM has always rated performance cars conservatively. Simple logic will tell you that if less powered G8-GT, which also weighs more, can run mid-13s stock...then a lighter Camaro with more power should run better.

Don't worry about the magazine hype, remember there is a ton of potential under the hood with that LS3. Who cares what they run stock???

Exactly, and its been said before....the runs on the 5th gens were done by GM engineers as more then likely shakedown runs in the automatic to. Get a good driver in one in good conditions....manual or auto and the times would be MUCH better.

It's the same with any car really. I'm sure it's the same for the Challenger and Mustangs to.

That 402hp is @5000rpm. I somehow don't think that's the peak hp for an engine that revs to 6500rpm. It's probably got a whole lot more.

I bet you a kajillion bucks the 5th. gen. is a 12 sec. car consistently if the GXP is 13 flat. So there's no need to fret, we hope. Off topic, has every1 noticed the gas prices have dropped dramatically?

When they ran the 13.4 was it even at a track or was it just down some road with some little electronic timer in the car?

It wasn't run. Those are "estimated" times.

Thats exactly what I was thinking when i saw the numbers!... "the new Camaro is estimated to be a mid 13 sec car!??!...somethings not right here" I think GM is just pandering to the Corvette owners again, but this time their going to the exteme with the numbers

yep, Bush lifted the executive ban on off shore drilling and speculators have noticed. Now if f'ing congress would just lift their ban we could get somewhere and prices would drop even more.

According to GM literature, the 05 GTO's were supposed to hit 13.0 in stock form. Yeah, that turned out real well!

Can you show me a link to the literature on the 13.0 or is this just more assumptions? It would honestly be cool to see if you can show me. It would prove they got it right for once.

When they ran it against the mach 1 I remember them being very low 13's. Car and driver...which is never known for showing a fast time ran it to a 13.3. People have ran a 13 flat with a stock ls2 gto before im sure. Thats how they should be rated...as fast as they can get the ****** to go. Not this BS.

If they didnt run them what kind of an estimate is a 13.4 when they estimate the gxp at 13.0?
Obviously 2 different people did the estimating and one of them was on meth.

True, they did miss the mark a tiny bit...bone stock '05/'06 GTOs have hit 12.9s (12.8s even?) instead.

Don't ever go by manufacturer's estimates or even magazine times when trying to determine what a car is actually capable of at the track.
I have no doubts that both a stock Camaro SS and the stock G8 GXP will be able to hit high 12s in decent air.

im thinking an SS will run deep 12s with ease. perhaps im a bit optimistic.

GM has to peddle to their Corvette owners. They spend almost top-dollar for their new Corvette, and don't want a 20k cheaper car to run with them. So GM peddles to them, under-rating the LS* engine in any Camaro. No way in hell will an LS3 422 (Or more, considering they're saying it reaches 422 at 5000rmps. I'd like to see it at 5300 or 5500. ) run a whole 1.4 seconds than a Corvette. I know the extra 600 pounds the SS weighs counts a lot, but still. As to the original topic, no way in hell with the Camaro < G8. Not gonna be possible. A V6 Camaro with a tune, CAI, and underdrive pulley\ headers will run circles on a GXP G8, imo.

According to GM literature, the 05 GTO's were supposed to hit 13.0 in stock form. Yeah, that turned out real well!
I would appreciate it if you would please delete your account. 89% of the things you say have no value to the conversation being had. Thank you in advance.

We all remember the 305hp rating on the LS1 in the camaro and the 350hp rating on the LS1 in the vette. My car dynoed 290/305 at the wheels. lol
