Default LQ4 or LQ9, how do I tell which I have?

I just bought a 6.0 out of a 2007 chevy 2500 hd classic for a unreal deal in my area. I can get the vin out of the truck if noone here can tell me visual differences, but I guess that would require someone knows how to read these vins. I need to know how to tell whether I have the lq4 or lq9. I would prefer to have the lq9 for now but in the future if I put forced induction to it like I plan in the future, I would prefer the lq4 as I have read on here that the lq9 isnt good for boost as the compression is to high for boost, without internal mods. I am installing this motor in a 71 chevy c10, soon to be shortbed. does anyone know how hard this swap is and where to get a reasonable price harness? I heard they are plug and play, but know how that goes since people also say lots of things are bolt ons.

Check the conversion section about the ease of the swap and the harness. As far as the engine itself, the LQ4 engines come with dish pistons while the LQ9's are flats.

thank you very much. I really have noone around my area that knows anything about these motors and my local speedshop doesnt deal with them as far as performance. Instead its all "ricers" and wanna-bes like stick on hood scoops and wheel spinners.

That should be a LQ4, the Escalades and the Silverado SS's got the LQ9.

As far as Harnesses go, you can build one yourself, it's not too hard.

I took mine for my swap from a '99 Camaro. It's not too bad really, just give power to what needs power, ground the grounds, and then the rest is guages pretty much.

The HD trucks came with the LQ4 so that's what it should be but idk how to tell for SURE what you have, the block and 317 heads are the same from what I understand.

If you're in need of a harness, check out Speartech. Got a harness from them for my 4l80e swap. The quality is absolutely awesome.

I have a T56, but I wouldn't consider KY in your area.

As well as the Vortec Max's and VHO's (GMC version of the Vortec Max).

what would you be asking for a t56 so I know what price I am looking at and what newer vehicles have them so I can be on the lookout for one here?
