LT1 Fbody now, or LS1 later?

There's a guy about 115 miles away from where I live who is selling this 1994 Camaro Z28 with 75k miles for about 4500 dollars. I could probably walk out with the car for about 4200 dollars.
The car is a 6spd tranny, and he just had the clutch and waterpump done last year, it has four brand new tires, and a few aftermarket performance such as exhaust from headers back (tailpipes look stock tho, so I don't know if he is just joshing me).
He has aftermarket rims but I am going to get rid of them and put ZR1 wheels on it.
From the pics, the car looks clean. I haven't talked to the guy yet about it, so I really don't know much about the car.
The pros to owning this car, is that its cheap, I am fairly handy with LT1s, and with a few mods done to them, they can be respectable cars, and because of it being cheaper, I can dump more money into it to make it faster. The cons to owning it, is that its already 14 years old, hard to believe but true. It's not what I am looking for, and that despite my utmost respect for the LT1s, it's an outdated motor. Nowadays you see V6s running 300hp and running faster 1/4 mile times than a stock lt1.
The next car up I want is an LS1 F body. I have found a 99' SS with 70k miles, also a 6spd running for 8900 dollars. Gorgeous car, in and out, and something I do want and would gush my juices over. There's an 01' Z28 6spd as well with 87k miles on it asking 8900 too, very clean inside and out, has SS hood and exhaust.
The problem is, the LS1 is a bit more expensive, and will take me longer to get. I don't know if these cars will be available in 2-3 months when I am ready to buy, but I can literally go down next weekend and get the LT1 and have a respectable car, or I can wait 2-3 or more months down the road and get the car that I initially wanted.

Most definately, there is no reason in the world that you should jump on the LT now. Wait it out and you will be much happier with the LS1. They are much easier to maintain and parts are A LOT easier to come by. In the meantime you can search around on here or locally and try to find some better deals. With it becoming winter, this is when prices are lower and you can talk down prices even more. Good Luck!!

and to add since I can't edit posts at work
take the money you save from the LS1 and put it into the LT1 and you'd have a faster car than the LS1 and no one would expect it to be fast at all because like the above person said "LT1's are outdated" *jack off motion* being the underdog and handing some of the cocky LS1 owners their *** is quite funny![Happy](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_stretch.gif)
but to be fair: this is LS1tech not LS1LT1tech.com so their will be bias

That's cute
I scored my '98 with 70k on the clock for $6,250. If you can afford to wait it out and you're willing to travel, steals can be had. Scour the classifieds here and you'll find them. That's what I did. The second car you mentioned doesn't sound like a bad deal at all.
Now for that LT1. If I was looking for a Camaro, I'd be pretty tempted to hop on that. Lower miles and an awesome price! Just weight the differences and DO NOT BE HASTY.
There are plenty of these things to go around, so get something you'll be content with. No need for regrets, man.

Like they said above, wait it out and scour everywhere! I found a 98 WS6 with only 69000 on the clock. Clean as new and the guy was asking 9800 bucks for it. I got him down to 7400 after a couple of weeks of dealing and finding an ac compressor frozen up on it. I have since seen an ss camaro for 6800 near my area and other not too bad deals. Just do the time in the search brotha and it will happen. Where you at and how far you want to travel? I will let you know if i see anything. If you can't wait there is a very good condition 95 LT1 for 1500 bucks near here...

I had a 97 LT1 for about a year and traded it in for the LS1 I have now and the longer I have it the more glad I am that I upgraded! Save a little for what you really want. You mentioned spending extra money on LT1 mods, save that money for the LS1!

I was like you for awhile. I wanted an LS1 but the LT1 was in reach. I held off and finally found an LS1 car I wanted and got a loan. I also rented a car and drove from OKC to Kansas City to get it too. I paid $10k for my car w/ 63k miles on it 3 years ago.
LS1 all the way.
