Default Hidden anti theft switch worth the trouble?

I remember reading on here a while back about installing a hidden switch to help prevent theft.
I did on one of my cars, just runs inline with the neutral safety switch to prevent it from cranking over.

Now that I think about it this seems like a waste of time.
How would someone break in and disable VATS in the first place?
I have the VIN covered up so no one can illegally get a key made. Unless my info is obtained from a shop.

Anyone use a hidden kill switch and think it would prevent a theft?

It all depends on how far you're willing to go to safeguard your car or, how much your car means to you. I say do it if you're that worried about your car.

Keep in mind though, that no car is "unstealable," no matter what you do. If they want it badly enough they'll get it, although F body's aren't high on the list of car thieves these days...

I'd do a hidden kill switch, that is basically passive, ie, when you have the seatbelt buckled, it closed a relay allowing you to start the car yourself, but a theif won't normally put the seatbelt on before stealing your car.

that is a good idea, i went a step further in my old caddy, I took the same relay idea and hooked it up to a phono jack. I had a removable phono plug on my keychain. When the were together the car started

I disagree. Although I have no statistical proof, from all of the thefts I hear about at least 70% are driven away.

I guess it could prevent it if someone broke into the house, and got the keys.

From what I've read it does sound like most car thefts are towed away.

I know how easy it is to get the door open with no key, but my factory alarm is set to make the horns go off, then someone on here said once that it's easy to reach under and disconnect them. I checked, and it is.

Then theres this question. How are they starting it? If they hotwire it what if they do it where it doesn't matter if it had the switch breaking the neutral safety wire.

I'm not worried about it now, my cars are safe. But I'm moving in a few weeks to a place where the car is going to be parked close to the road, in a shitty neighborhood.

This is a good thread so far, what are some wiring schematics or ideas on how to put a kill switch in the f-body. The window switch one I've seen is pretty cool. Any other ideas, how do you wire up the seatbelt thing?

I would do it if my car sat outside. And if you have the chance park it next to a curb and turn the front wheels into it and pull the e-brake. Makes it harder for the ones that just tow it away. Instead of just pulling the car straight out the wheel will turn into the curb instead and make it hard to get. I do that in possible tow away zones with my other cars. Cut the wheel hard so if they try and pull it out it will swing into the car next to you or whatever may be there. Kinda a-holish but would make em think twice about pullinit out.

I had a 240sx with a sr20 swap in it a while back.. it was stolen and recovered 3 times in 4 months so i got tired of replacing windows and door handles so i just left it unlocked all the time and added a hidden cut off switch for the starte.. boom never stolen again... by the way i routed the cut off switch under the clutch pedal that i would just flip with my foot everytime i got in and out of the car

I've installed hidden fuel cutoff switches (toggle switch on the line to the fuel pump) in quite a few of my vehicles and they work like a charm.

Got, one. . . Kills the BCM with a micro switch that I hid in the car.

I turn it on when the car is in less safe place.

Will it make my car un-stealable - no - but it will prevent most douche bags from getting away with my car.

My 96 TA had a switch on it that wouldn't let you start the car unless you turned the parking lights on.

Ravelco is is a great anti theft device. Personally I think just about any affordable security measure is worth it. I mean, what happens the day you walk out to your car and discover that some asshat stole it? Your gonna sit and think "****!, I should have spent that $400 on extra security instead of that sound system." Just my .02
