Drive a terminator and you'll make up you mind very quickly. I've had a ls1 also.....they are both nice cars. You can pick one up for around 19500 usually. I'm currently getting rid of my 03 cobra since I'm going to purchase a house. I love it but want to build a monster of my own breed a ls powered 3rd gen camaro. Good luck and if you do get in the market let me know...I know of a couple great ones on the market right now.

thats like comparing a SS camaro to a V6 f-bod...there still plenty of them around to..not just mustangs...sure theres a **** load of mustangs V6's and GT's out there but honestly how many Cobra's(of all years)do u see everyday...not as many...same goes with SS's and WS6/Firehawk's. Both are Great cars But as a few have stated the Cobra will Prolly be the Most Reliable when it comes to Adding Power. for example.... Full exhaust(mid pipe and catback), Cold air intake, Pullie, Steggy Stage IV ported Eaton and u got 500 rwhp give or take a lil and it will drive damn near stock like it did off teh show room floor and still maintain teh stock MPG...cant say the same with F-bodies after a cam swap(not bashing them but u WILL lose MPG). F-bodies make way better Drag cars and also very fun street cam only cars....i mean ****!... nothing beats the sound of a nice Loping Pushrod....that does scream MUSCLE right there! but mustangs sound awsome too..very exotic and refined. I have owned both and I like the mustangs interior better but the F-body is roomier and has a way better shifter location and the leather seats feel better on the behind lol. hmmm if i had the money i prolly get an 03 but the C5Z sounds really nice too and they can hang with just about anything out there u'll run into with a simple cam swap and bolt-ons and vettes are cheaper to Insure too! But anyways I love the LS1 and how easy they are to work on, thats why Im getting one next summer after i sell my 97 snake....for my goals the LS1 is easier to make way faster and stay N/A and a low 12 to high 11sec street car is nothing to laugh at either. but in my Opinion get what makes u happy....it also depends on how deep u wanna dig in ur Pockets too. Cant go wrong with either IMO....hope this helps a lil

A guy I work with has a beautiful 2005-2006 (not sure) stage 2 Roush, but added a supercharger and dyno'd 415... My cam only Car is 387 with a mild cam. I'm going to run him soon...
I am tired of all the "little things" that go wrong with F-body's.
Btw, having a paid off car is very nice with this economy.

a stock ported blower on the cobra with supporting mods and bolt ons averages 480-490 hp at the wheels. Porting isnt free so that costs needs to be added in as well.
After that your dropping big money as thats all the stock blower has. Then you have to deal with heat soak in that supercharger and just over heating problems in general with the cobra. I know from this side of the fence it looks like its the perfect car but until you own one yourself or know someone that does its not without its problems like anything.
If you want to do it right you have the car to do it with now. Build a forged 347 and slap a aps turbo kit or vortech supercharger on it. You will have way more power potential for the price. Figure your going to be paying atleast 8-10,000 dollars more then what your car is worth for a cobra . An aps turbo kit is around 6,000, then say another 1500 -2000 for supporting fuel system/tuning. If 470 rwhp is going to be plenty for you with that cobra then a stock ls1 will take 500 rwhp all day long as long as its tuned. If not then a forged short block will probably run 3500. At this point you have to ability to make 700-800 ++++ rwhp and save big money over the mustang.
YOU need to decide what you want for power options. If your looking for 500 rwhp you can do that with your car right now for 3-4000 dollars cheaper then that mustang. If you want big power 700-800 at the wheels or more build yourself a forged shortblock and you will still be saving a shitload of money from the start. After 500 rwhp a cobra is going to have to spend almost as much money on power adders as you spent from the start....
So lets say a cobra is 10,000 more then what you could sell your car for:
Aps turbo or vortech supercharger ~ $6000
Supporting fuel system mods and tuning ~$1500
Forged 347 shortblock ~3500
You could even build a 427 for $6000-7000 that would absolutely destroy any stock blowered mustang.
optional but probably worth it:
12 bolt rear end (mustang irs will need to be replaced for big power also) $2200
The way i see it you could save 3-4 thousand if you only want 500 rwhp or you can spend an extra 1-2 thousand more then the cobra right now modding your car to handle 800+++ horsepower. So lets look at the benefits. You will have a brand new forged motor capable of holding more power then the stock cobra block. You will have brand new turbos or suprerchargers.
With a used cobra you have no idea how long the motor or anything will last as its probably been beat to **** like most sports cars. Could last 100,000 miles could last you one summer. thats a gamble.
If you want a cobra buy a cobra, just dont buy it because you think it will make more power for cheaper because it wont.
