Default How to clean aluminum???

I have a 04 ls1 engine and want to clean it up (oxidized from chicago weather). What would you use?

I would just use some aluminum rim cleaner or S100 which you buy @ a motorcycle shop.

Foamy engine brite and a thick bristle brush, even a wire brush. Maybe try a grinder with a softer wire brush attachment. I'll google for some pictures. Make sure you are at a low speed and low pressure. It will even give it a bit of a shine.

Machine shop can dip it if its tore apart. Looks like new after that.

I don't know I didn't ask they called it a ''cool dip'' if I remember right. they ''hot dip'' cast iron.

Take it to a machine shop and have them soak it in a bath

If you are just wanting to clean it by hand, 1:2 simple green/water, let it soak for 20 seconds and take some 000 steel wool to it. It will suck because of all the crevasses, but it will get it clean. Make sure to rinse the simple green off with cool water after you clean a section or it could cause minute corrosion.

exactly what i was thinking. +1 for steel wool. used steel wool to clean the front on my heads
