If you have all the LS2 sensors/harnesses etc.... it is a direct bolt in. The original PCM will work too with a tune....

They had an article about this in the last issue of GMHTP. It didn't seem like that bad of a swap. No motor or tranny mount changes. The reluctor wheel for the crank position sensor, knock sensors, and a couple other things are different. You dont even need a different pcm. I forget which company sells all the harness adapters but they are available.

i think in that gmhtp article they used a stand alone computer to run the engine. A stock LS1 computer will not run the ls2 reluctor wheel... You CAN change the wheel and it will run it... but your right everything else is pretty much the same except for knock sensors and cam sensor locations.... other then that people throw aluminum ls2 402 shortblocks in their cars all the time... not a direct drop in but they dont take a whole lot of work either..

It will run on the factory LS1 computer. There is an adapter harness with a box in it that changes it from the 58 tooth to 28 tooth or whatever they are so the stock computer can read it.

all ls2 gto's have the same 24x reluctor wheel the ls1 pcms use. No converter box required.

why would i swap the engine? If that is your question well its for various reasons. I have a 2000 Pontiac Trans Am, it has 145000 miles on it its an automatic and i blew the transmission. An ls2 engine has 400hp about 95 hp more than the ls1, manual transmission, 30000 miles(I want a manual transmission because i have been doing lots of rolling races). I think that should answer the question why I'm swapping the engine.

You will have to have some changes done tot he GTO T56 to use it in a F body. I know the shifter setup is different and I'm not sure if it has the tourque arm mount on the tail shaft housing. Other than that, just use the GTO PCM and harness and you'll be fine.

An ls2 engine has 400hp about 95 hp more than the ls1
Come on now, i think youll get gains from the swap, and kudos for the effort, but no ls1 was making 305hp at the crank.....

what he was saying is that the ls2 makes 400 crank HP, not RWHP (to the rear wheels, through a transmission, etc) And for the ls2 to make that much more power than your ls1, you'd be making only 305 crank HP. Your car probably has 305 RWHP (to the wheels) and closer to 350 crank HP.
Thats there the 95 hp difference he was referring to comes from.
So no, you didn't write that, but it IS what is implied.

oh ok. I did not have my info right I thought the ls1 engines had 305 to the crank not to the wheels. Wow. hmm. lots of things to consider now.Either way I am going to pick up the salvage GTO this weekend. So it would only be about a 50 hp gain with the swap?
