Lightbulb C5 ZO6 Best Value?

I was thinking about trading in the 2000 SS camaro and getting a 2002-2004 C5 zo6. I was thinking that there is nothing that can touch it figuring a car under 25k new or used. Is there any one who can think other wise?

Stock its faster then a '03 cobra BUT a Cobra has much more potential without having to mod the engine itself.

2001 Z06!
Easily under $20k.
Oil consumption issue is barely an issue. You won't know you are 'missing' 20hp.
Spend the extra money on a new/better clutch (and some bolt-ons), then you can drive the car as hard as you want.

I think the z06's appeal, more so when it was new was value. Find another car with that performance at that price that is actually drivable on real roads.

Like stated above 01 Z06. Some minor differences from the 02-04 Z's but they can be had for under 21k all day. Also a Fixed roof coupe is another Idea and I too sold my SS for one of these. They are light as hell same body as a Z06 but with a LS1. They can be had for around 16-17k easy

The C5 Z06 is your best bet. Intake/ Exhaust/ and a Dyno Tune will net you about 400rwhp. With a car that handles as good as that and is that light its a pretty stunning car for the money.

Don't know if they are still available... a few choices on Autotrader...
a couple Z06s under $18k, and a '02 for $16.5k!

You aint getting 500whp from just a tune and pulley.

I have owned two Terminators, and C5Z. The C5Z with exhaust, intake and tune, will run right with a pullied cobra, and it won't be pulling teeth driving it.

it is by far the best bang for the buck vehicle out right now..

no..

i watched an 03 cobra with full exhaust/intake/water cooled/drag radials and making 10-11 lbs of boost (more than stock) get walked on by an 03 zo6 with a CAI and street tires...

if a zo6 has long tubes/radials/exhaust/cai/tune it would take a ported blower to run with it..

you wont touch that.. tune and pulley would put you at around 400rwhp tops..

I'd go Z06 for sure. But on the Cobra issue, I guess I have been lied to..? many people with Cobras have told me $2k towards intake/exhaust/pulley/gears/tune will get you over 500 to the rear wheels.

That would be one fun DD, if I must say so myself... but appearance-wise, even Cobra owners agree Z06's are sexy as hell.

yes... a intake/exhaust/pulley/gears/tuned cobra will put down 445-465... general rule is 455... it is rare to see more than 465... you wont see 500 unless you have a ported blower... there has only benn ONE cobra put down 500 on a stock blower, and IIRC he was questioned about it..

still though.. if you take those mods.. all it would take on a zo6 is headers exaust intake tune and drag radials and you could go have fun with cobras all day!

hell or you could procharge the zo6... there was a thread not long ago with one.. made like 600rwhp on 8-9 lbs...

there are NO reasons not to buy a c5z06 unless you have $$$ for a c6z06

You have not been lied to. An 03/04 can easily make 500rwhp but probably closer to 450-475 with the mods you mentioned. They are definitely very fast cars.

According to Car and Driver, they think so. For under $30k, by far is the best bang for the buck.

Personally, I don't think there is anything nicer than a C5 Z06 lol. One of my favorites. I would definitely get one if I had the opportunity.
