That's cool, glad you are going through with it.

I wish I had parents like that . My grandpa is about to buy a new 09 Ram 1500 and it will basically be mine, we went looking today and I love them.

I know a very responsible 16 yr. old that has a 91 lx 5.0. Forged 306 block and it has the Helion turbo kit on it and AFR 205's along with a pretty respectable cam. It is a auto C-4 and is stalled. It also has a cage and a 9" with 3.70's. He drives the car with caution because it makes close to 600 rwhp with meth. I think it is all in the person, teenager in this case. If you think he can be responsible enough to handle it then I say go for it. Then agian the teen I speak of dad has a 89 rx7 with a 557 BBF that makes 1100 rwhp+ all motor and has a 500 two stage shot if needed. Meaning he was kinda bred for this stuff but then again its still all in the person.

Here's the RX7 just for ***** and giggles.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QELB5e75dw

i remember driving when i was 8 years old with my dad beside me of course so i had a few driving lessons before i got my first car but the way i see it is age really dont acct, for much.if you get him a honda civic when he does get a v8 rwd its not gonna be the same as the honda civic he will still have to learn how to respect it no matter 1f hes 16 or 30.ive had so many brushes with death i cant even count them but im still as wild now at 24 as i was at 14 in my chevelle.i just learned early how to handle a powerful car .he just needs a few (driving lessons) that aint in the dot handbook and he should be ok.just my .........02

best thing for anyone that age is to take some high performance driving classes. builds real confidence and allows you to feel what its like to lose control of the car in a much more control environment than the street which is almost guaranteed to happen if a 16 year old has either of those cars. i got in trouble with a 142 hp subaru legacy at that age, i cant imagine how many pieces i would be in with something actually powerful.

There is no such thing as "a kid cant handle a car"...thats bullspit. Power isnt the question, the question is if the kid(or you) will fk it up showing off or getting into an accident. I had a friggin station wagon as my first, so you should get a Scion.

Yea reminds me of High School when I graduated in 05, there was a brand new Vette in the student lot, pretty much the first C6 ive seen. Thing that got me P****ed off was that my Trans Am got voted #2 car in the whole schools parking lot. So if that chicks daddy didnt buy her a brand new vette I woulda been #1

But what really matters is the fastest car, and that woulda been my TA
Yea, that would have ticked me off too. I personally didn't really care if my car was the fastest on the lot but it was in the top 3, but I was #1 for sexiest car.

No ones jealous of anything. You really showed your age with that post. Most of us are just saying that as a teenager you do dumb stuff. I know i did, im willing to bet pretty much all of us did. Both of my best friends had ls1s, both of them totaled their cars. We do live in jersey, the worst state to drive in. It is alot of power for your first car. It is the combo of inexperience and power that makes it dangerous. If he can handle it thats great but 90% of teenagers can't.

Im sick of people posting stupid bullshit like this.

Get him in the car, and take him to the road course, drag strip, auto-x...whatever. The car is only going to go as fast as his right foot tells him to, and if he is as you describe, he will know the right time to do it, and the wrong time to do it. If you teach him how to control the car during that right time, then I see no harm done. When I was 16, I did auto-x's in my Integra, later graduating on to HPDE and drift events in my 240sx. They might not have been very fast, but I put those cars in very compromising positions. Lap after lap, break and power-steering fluid boiling out the resevoirs and all....
Another invaluable thing...take him out to a big secluded parking lot late at night. You would be surprised how much you can learn just screwing around.

I'm also getting a kick out of these people that are saying "OH NOEZ DONT GIVE A 16 YEAR OLD KID A BIG BAD V8" LMAO. PLEASE....you know how many old ladies I see driving the same ws6 I have?

Let him learn how to drive the car.
