Car Purchased: Cobra/Ws6 too much for a 16 year old to handle?
https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-l...-handle-9.html
^^^^ original thread ^^^^^
Well Dad and I went out and found a car to give the boy...
2001 Camaro Z28 in BRR, cloth, hardtop, equipped with ASR, totally stock except some trick aftermarket black headlights that glow red at night and a flowmaster muffler... extrememly good shape... drives tight and doesnt feel abused at all... two owners before but they were both in their 50's (like that means ****, but they may have been more responsible)
We paid 8 out the door after tax, title, and registration.
The car has 80,000 miles...
I figured a 16 year old is doing pretty damn well to get a Z28 as his first car.
Although its not the dream cobra/ws6 he wanted, I imagine he will **** himself when he gets off the bus today and walks up to a bright red z28 in the driveway
Question:
1. did we get a good deal on this?
2. Dont flowmasters suck a big **** ?
Thanks for all the input on the other thread fellas, it helped us decide on getting him an F-Body. He's a good kid, and I hope he'll respect his ride.
pat
Im running out the door to class now, ill post pics of his BRR z28 next to my BRR SS
I mean, come on, I have to have the big dog right

Congrats on the purchase looks really clean! and the flowmasters arnt that bad, its not as big of a gain as other aftermarket catbacks but it flows just as well if not slightly better then the stock muffler

ttops aare an almost must have for me in an fbody, but other than that, its more than perfect for a 16 year old. just give him an ultimatum: you wreck it, you pay for it. you get a ticket. you pay for it. that should keep him on the straight and narrow, hopefully.
and flowmasters suck.
and flowmasters suck.

Thats very cool.
I wouldn't worry too much, some kids will get into trouble with a car like that, others won't.
His parents have to lay down the guidlines and expect him to follow.
If he were my son, I'd say this: You break something, I'll help you get it fixed, but you're going to pay me back in full. You get caught doing something excessively stupid, the car gets parked for a while. You get caught again it gets sold.
Other than that, I'd buy him a nice detailing kit and set time aside to clean our cars and maintain his. A kid who spends time detailing and maintaining their car is more likely to treat it better and care about it.
Hopefully he appreciates that car.

i had a cammed trans am when i was 17 (bought it stock and did all the work to it) and 18 now and own a kenne bell cobra. i dont think its too much to handle, its all in how responsible you are, i havent had one speeding ticket and only 1 accident (turned out to be insurance scam by other person)
nice car, have him treat it nice and he wont get into trouble... i wish my parents bought me a camaro
oh yea and adopt me?
