"Lost its street 'cred? I wasn't aware that you could lose it after you won it. Well if it has, what can you expect from a 12 year old motor? I'd say the LS-1 is starting to go the way of the 60's street Hemi; it had its day but it's becoming more of a legend, especially with the rice-rocket crowd with the memory and attention span of a goldfish. Now, I'm not saying that a legend can't still get in the ring every once in a while, but there're newer, better motors out there..."
better motors? better cars? where?

Where I live its just rice. I took a good ricer buddy of mine out in my car and he loved everything about it. I actually get compliments on my cars stock exhaust?
My car is bone stock besides a PP tb and a SLP lid and they all think its crazy fast.

Let see Ford has the Base, GT, Cobra, Cobra Terminator, GT 500, Boss, Bullet, Mach 1, Roush, Steeda, Saleen and now the Super Snake. Mustang has enough lables to start its own dealership.
As far as I have seen, the LS1 can handle any of these cars, save the Super Snake with simple H/C/I/E if even needed in the first place, that says a lot. For a Ford to be comparable to any LS1, it must wear a $20K badge.
As for beating a Super Snake, I would guess that would be in the modded LS2 or 3 range, but someone could chime in on that.
As for your scene Bro, I would not sweat it. Just agree that your lowly LS1 is outdated then proceed to prove otherwise on the terrafirma, this issues will take care of itself; sooner or later all smack talk will cease, but sadly so will any race for $![Winky](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_wink.gif)

LS1 is now "overrated" and "outdated" in your hangouts? **** your people must have a boatload of money and be running crazy LS7's, etc.
The LS1 was beyond its years in performance potential when it was released. Why do so many people STILL use it? Because even to todays performance standards, it still is a crazy motor capable of awesome power.
I still have an LT1, which around here is decently respected. I get a little bit of trash talk every now and then but for the most part people aren't ignorant and know that the LT1, LS1, LS2, LS3, LSA, LS9, etc. etc. are all beyond their years in performance innovation.

Same here. In my small town of like 4000 people you take every race you can get. If you see a LS1 you look at it as a privilege. Most are vettes so anything else is a honor.

i got plenty of looks in 2004 my first summer driving around but now people usually leave me alone. i think the word is out, LS1's aren't slow. our cars are budget hot rods (relatively speaking) the new faster cars are 30-40k. so whats wrong with a 10k cool looking fast car? im stuck with the ? do i mod somemore or save 5 yrs for a used 5th gen camaro vert. hmmmmm? wheres santa when you need him?

Well like I told my buddy, "If you think that spending 40,000 for a car that is faster than mine as you winning, I dare you to give me the same 30,000 extra to mod my car." I could build a car that would make satan **** himself.
