Because the LQ 4.0" bore in the gen III and the 4.0" (or greater) gen IV the LS1 is not the best choice to make big power..... But it is still a very strong platform and can meet many peoples goals.... I plan to run 10's all motor on my stroker when I do it and it shouldn't be too hard...... If I wanted to go faster yes I would pick another platform.....

The problem around here is the stupid mustang and ricer owners that think there **** is the fastest thing around town. I hate/can't STAND IT. They think our ls1's are under powered but yet a newer gto is faster. Then they get puzzled when I say I can out run them all day stock for stock. A lot of them forget the power to weight ratio, so again were just dealing with ignorance. I'm glad I got my headers, exhaust and tune and the other little things. That help keep em buried even further.

I'm not going to go out of my way to gain the respect of some rice burning twinks that **** it to hentai mangas. The money making aspect of their ignorance is far too advantageous to give a damn. Let 'em talk. Let 'em try. Let em' cry.
Easy pickins, brother.

I used to think like that and finally I just came to the conclusion that some people are just retarded. And if anyone ever asks if its "fast" the answer they get from me is nope these Trans Ams are dogs.... If I spread that around are small town enough eventually I should be able to make some money

Lost its street 'cred? I wasn't aware that you could lose it after you won it. Well if it has, what can you expect from a 12 year old motor? I'd say the LS-1 is starting to go the way of the 60's street Hemi; it had its day but it's becoming more of a legend, especially with the rice-rocket crowd with the memory and attention span of a goldfish. Now, I'm not saying that a legend can't still get in the ring every once in a while, but there're newer, better motors out there...

Nope. IMO, more people now know what a LS1 is and what it can do. With almost 13 years of kicking *** and taking names, even the most hardcore import fanboi knows what the LS1 is all about.

However, this "legend" that you speak of, is not a legend here. It gets in the ring and does some work in our street scene every single week. The LS3's and LS7's are still small in number, and the LQ4/LQ9 cars are still considered iron block LS1's, since they are in the same family of motors. The LS1 here is still very much a mainstay and a workhorse. It has not faded at all.
I'm not talking about stock LS1's with a lid and a catback. We have plenty of H/C LS1's, blown LS1's, Nitrous LS1's, etc. They all hold their ground just fine.

Considering the gen 1 SBC hasn't lost it's street cred after over 50 years, I don't see the LS1 losing it anytime soon.
Even if the newer engines are putting out more stock HP, the LS1 is still a great base to build on, just like the original small block still is.
How about the mod motored Mustangs...did they ever even HAVE any street cred??

An LS1 SS or WS6 hasn't lost any street cred as far as I've seen. Going on 11 years there's nothing out there (in mass quantity) that can even come close. Sure the GTO has an LS2, the new Camaro has an LS3, the C6 has the LS2, LS3, LS7, and LS9, but what to this day do you still see the most of on the street? LS1 4th gens. If you have a stock looking Z28 or a non-WS6 bird, yes nobody is going to give you the time of day. Now if you have at least some nice wheels and a nice sounding exhaust on the base LS1 car, you'll get more attention.
It's the LT1 which is the one that's fallen off the face of the earth. Talk about a huge fall, this engine used to be king. Now it might has well be a TPI 305 to most hot rodders.
Make your car not look so stock and you'll see a difference.
