Default 243 heads on 1999 fbody's?

Does anyone know if they came on any 1999 fbody's? I always thought theyre were some 241's but 243s didn't come out till 01 02?

243's never came on ANY f-body's. Those are the ls6 heads. They only came on the Z06 vettes. (or anything else with the LS6)

the 241's came on mid 2000-2002 f-body's

the others were 853, or 806 (parameter bolt heads)

I probably should just check the stickies but..

the others were 853, or 806 (parameter bolt heads)

So, if my valve covers are center bolts, but it's a 99, its got 241s?
Should have checked the damn casting number when I had the covers off yesterday.

How much of a difference is there between the 853 and the 243 head? Like is it worth picking up a set to swap or are you better off just getting a better set to begin with?

You should be able to see the casting number with everything on the engine and in the car...

if you mean the diff between the ls1 head and the ls6 head than yes its worth the swap but if you meant 241 not 243 thanits not worth it

the 241 and 853 are almsot identical. you will see really good gains going from a stock 241 to a stock 243 (10-15). ported, you can see 25-35 depending on cam, compression and everything else. they are a wayyy better design.

if its a 99 it came with 853's from the factory. Only 98's had 806's, and mid year 2000+ came with 241's. 99-my 00 had 853. If you look on the passenger side, toward the front of the head it will be stamped there.

the power difference between the 853's and the 241's isnt nearly as much as people make it out to be. They are the EXACT same design, the only difference is they way they are cast. The 853 is sand cast, while the other is die cast. The better surface from the cast heads leads to a little power difference, but not much. if you port the 853's then they are just as good as ported 241's.

I ordered my 2000 SS in FEB. 2000 and it was delivered in April 2000 and it has 241's.

sounds about right... model year 2000 doesn't actually start jan 1 2000. it actually starts some time in 99 (around august, or september I think).
