you could also have a completely empty gas tank, pour in 1 gallon and drive until you run out, otherwise you are NOT making an accurate reading dipstick! how old are you punk? post you math grades if you graduated h.s. the gloves are off, lets go!

That is probably the most scientific idea yet!

So why are you crying about 'go fill up your tank and drive 300 miles and fill it back up and divide'? At best, the way we determine our mpg is an educated guess with a lot of uncontrollable variables (at least for every day life). I am not going to drain my gas tank, measure out 3.78541178 liters of gasoline (that is what a gallon is equivalent to in metric, math boy )in a graduated cylinder, and strap every kind of device known to man to record distance traveled.

I can, however, fill up my gas tank, push the trip odometer, drive some sort of distance, fill up my gas tank, take my odometer reading and divide it by the number of gallons that the pump said it pumped. That is the generally accepted way of figuring an avg. mpg.

A mod is not going to come in here and say that I am lying. There are a couple of other people who have posted on this board that have managed 30mpg in their bird. It is not an every day occasion, but it can, and has happened. Please stop sweating the small things, I don't know what you are trying to prove?

You want me to post my math grades?? Please, what are you? Twelve? Go back to watching your Barney tapes.

** I see you must just sit around and wait for MPG threads to pop up so that you can go in and attack anyone who has gotten a really good MPG.
https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-l...s1-f-body.html

30 mpg is the not the average for these cars. It was achieved under the most ideal of driving conditions, which most of the time can not be replicated. (Even the quality of the gasoline from shipment to shipment.) Take information as the grain of salt that it is. I think that there is more evidence supporting that 30mpg is plausible, than there is saying that it is impossible, or that whoever has done it must somehow be stupid at math.

Instead of telling me that I can't do math, explain to me how it is not feasible. I think everyone would get a chuckle out of whatever you will have to make up to support your claim. You lost any kind of credibility with me, when you didn't even know the size of the gas tank.

Oh, and cheers.

if his car is a FI car making that hp, my apologies, but I seriously doubt it.
Apologies accepted. The car I speak of is not the one I am selling. The one I'm talking about is a 800+ hp, 2000 TA with a D-1SC, A4,4000 stall, 3.73 gears, this was with the a/c on and cruise control at 70 when I could. I think I could have gotten better if I would have been in lighter traffic. Some of this was in heavy traffic going thru Dallas. I had to hit breaks and sometimes traffic came to a stop. If I could have left cruise on 70 whole time I should have gotten better than my 17mpg. In the city I get 12 mpg

Thanks for watching my back BlackTA96.

Sorry Dano, Blackonblack is right... There are SEVERAL 6 speed cars that have gotten over 30 on just highway trips. When I first got my car I filled it up, drove it 355 miles home, then filled up when I got back and it took 11.2 gallons to fill up. That was ALL highway with stock gears running 65 the whole way. No WOT. at 65 in a m6 with stock gears the engine is barely turning.

oh, and incase your math isn't up to par... 355/11.2=31.696428

yes i knew different years came with different size gas tanks thats why i implied anyone could get 20 mpg hwy x 15 gallons = 300 miles. you really believe driving 30 miles then refilling is accurate? please pass what your smoking (puff, puff, pass dude!). again, ANYONE PROVE IT! if its so simple then just try the simple experiment i ask. but you wont because you CANT!

Best I've gotten was 25 mpg highway miles with an A4. My last 4th gen. LS1 was a 6spd. and it got slightly better mpg than the A4. The 6spd. will usually get better mpg mostly because you can modulate your shift points unlike the automatic.

BTW: Why does most threads here quickly turn into pissing matches???

We're all here to learn about our cars and gather good info. There's always some anomaly to every situation or thing so under certain conditions anything is possible but there is no reason to keep slamming a member for it.

Unfortunately it's quite uncommon to find people with any common sense these days!!!

if you'd like to know why i have such an issue with people making 30 mpg claims its because when the newbie hops on this board checking things out and thinks wow, my car must be a POS because it doesnt get 30 mpg. thats why i hammer blowhards making wild claims. yes this is probably the 6 thread i've challenged these jokers. he then called me a girl scout and the gloves came off. when will someone stand with me and call BS? IM DONE POSTING ON THIS THREAD. L8TR!

Dano, as I has said in every post... Getting 30 is not the normal and is achieved under the most ideal conditions. And quit crying, please.

Did you neglect to read my post simply because it proves you wrong? No one here can change your mind, you've made it up, and no matter how many people have done it you're not going to believe them.

You sir, are the definition of ignorance.

exactly. It can only be done when driving under optimal conditions... eg: No WOT, keeping the rpms low, and being in a 6 speed (since you are turning about 1200-1400 rpms at 60... I don't remember the exact number since I switched to 4:10s, but it would lug the engine below 50 when in 6th)

Guys with A4's have such a hard time believing a 6 speed can pull off that kind of mpg's amuse me.
