Default 106k miles... to late for some real mods?

just curious on people's opiniosn if im just better off not wasting money on it. i got a new job so im now as financially burdened anymore. anyhow. i can afford to do things like cams/stall ect. but im wondering if at this mileage is there still alot of life left in the engine? doesnt burn a drop of oil. never has been low at oil change time either so i dont think i have any leaks other than just the tad bit of buildup around seams. what do yall think? im torn between sellling it to some high school kid and going with a new car that is fresh or maybe even trying to find a low mileage 02 ws6 that isnt priced outrageous.

any feedback is welcome.

There're alot of guys that have started internal mods at and over 100K. Obviously, the younger the car the better, but unless your car has been beat on its whole life you'll be fine with what you end up doing. Now, any 'mod will shorten the lifespan of any car no matter how many miles are on it, but if worse came to worse you could always rebuild or just sell it. Besides, it sounds like money isn't an issue any more so why not give it a shot?

I would say MOD IT!!! But thats me. If I were you why not put a cam in it. Rebuild the top end a little and leave it. Then on the side start building a bigger better motor so when this one does go out you have a new one.

just curious as to how "any mod" can shorten the lifespan of an engine? i believe making an engine breath better and run more efficiently would actually increase the life of the motor.

unless you're referring to the tendency to hammer the gas pedal after some new mods, lol. then i would have to agree!

If anything get a DD and retire this car from dd duty n mod the hell out of it. I doubt you 'll have any problems as far as moding goes.

Thumbs up

That motor is just barely broken in! Mod it! Look at my sig and how many LS1's I have owned. Most had over 120k and were well modded. My current Z has 233k on it and my Vette 85k

I got a used 2002 motor with 135k on it, does not burn oil runs fine. I plan to swap out the top end on it but the top end I am going to use will also work on the LS2 stroker short block I plan to have put in at a later date.

The reason they say modding it will shorten the life is simple. More HP and more compression equal more stress on the parts. That is why the life is shortened.

Ls1s are very moddertly built, cams are very low lift which is one reason they last so long. but of coarse a NEW modded drivetrain may last longer than the used one you have.

There are many different ways you could go, The bottom end may still be in perfect shape and may get 100k more miles out of it. I would either MOD, Or build a engine on the side to drop into it.

As long as the engine is in proper mechanical order, there will be no difference if the engine has 4 or 400,000 miles on it.

Remember guys, mileage != wear

I've seen engines with less than 1,000 miles on them run like **** and I've seen a truck with over one million miles run and tow like a champ.

Go for it!
