Question Now I hear that GM released several STOCK Z28s with the LS6 block!?!? What?!?!

Based on the locked thread in the kill forum https://ls1tech.com/forums/street-ra...ck-ls1-43.html post #148, someone stated that there were several 2002 (possibly 2001) Z28's that were released with LS6 blocks!? I know all about my LS6 instake but what's up with the block? I have never, ever heard of this.
Is this confirmed?

My my my, how quickly the internet forgets.

There was some word back in the day, (2005-2006) that when the F-body was in its last year of production, they ran short on LS1 blocks so random cars from 2001 and almost all 2002 models came with LS6 blocks. Unfortunately, that was about the extent of it. Aside from improved oil flow passages, not much was deemed to be an improvement over the LS1 counterpart in stock form, and it's not a clear indication of random, 330+RWHP factory freaks running around.

I've only heard that some late production 2002 models came with them.

You can check the part numbers on them, but I believe they're hard to get to. I've seen some selling on eBay with confirmed LS6 blocks. I really don't think it makes much of an improvement, however...

No HP gain from the block alone.

i believe the part number in on the back of the block. i remember guys saying you needed a flash light and a small mirror to be able to read it, thus determining whether its an ls6 block.

This is old news, those of us that have been in this community for a long time have known about this for years.

It's not a big deal at all. The LS6 block offers nothing in terms of HP gains.

Exactly. A search would have revealed a lot of info on this subject.

An Ls6 block does nothing in terms of performance. All it does is have different style/size oil ports/ducts/tunnels.

On the front of the motor behind the water pump there are no round dimples on the block on a LS-6 block and the LS-1 block has the dimples.

omfg, every like 6months someone posts a thread about this. It's a block.. not a turbo, stop acting like it's a difference in power or something.

LOL. Yep. And what's worse is when people confuse "block" for "heads" and suddenly start posting about how "some '02 LS1s came with LS6 heads!!!". I love that one! Then they refuse to beleive us when we try to explain that it was NOT the heads, ever.

Hmm, how come no one has mentioned the bullseye method?
The quickest and easiest way.

But I'm going to be a dick here and not say how to determine the block using this method.
Because I think it's funny that the same god damn thread is started about once a week.

As I recall from the umteen threads here about the subject, it was more like 25% of 2002's got the LS6 block.

Here is the relevant information, from JRP's FAQ sticky in the newbie tech section;

https://ls1tech.com/forums/1740886-post8.html

Looks like it was about 15% of 2001 and 25% of 2002's that got them.

Thank you for the information without the smart *** comments.

Yeah, I have been here since 01 but I don't live for this forum as does others.
I've had an 87, 94, 99 & the 02 and no, I did not hear of this as a matter of fact. I left off when there was speculation that LS6 motors were possibly installed in 2002 (the entire motor, not just intake or heads or blocks.)

There was never speculation of entire LS6 long blocks being installed in F-bodies stock, unless you just happened across some joker trying to start rumors.

Possibly... hence my OP to clarify what I previously read.
