Default Want another F-body. Did prices go up??

I joined this site along time ago when I had my 98 TransAm. Basic bolt on's, 3800 stall, and 100 shot was alot of fun but after getting married and kept fixing the car it was time to move on. I now have an Audi A4 V6 Quattro which is just a few payments from paid off. I am divorced now too so the "cool" car bug is biting me pretty bad.

When I bought my 98 TransAm back in 05 I paid 8,000 for it. It was super super clean to have 103k miles on it.. I am pricing them again now and it seems like 8,000 is going to get me a 98 model with 100k miles like it did back in 05.. Guess these cars arent loosing any value?? Or maybe even going up in value??

The excellent condition ones seem to have bottomed out in price and have been holding steady for a while. The average/fair condition ones with high miles are still dropping a bit.

Back in '05, a 100k mile '98 was on the high mileage side. Today, A 100k mile '98 would be normal to slightly low miles.

Yeah I am certainly not complaining.. well, I guess in a sense I am. I was hoping I could jump into a 98 with 100k miles for 5kish but the ones I have seen are holding steady at 8k like I paid back in 05. Thats a very good thing for the car, just not so great for my wallet I figure my budget is around 9000 or a little over.. That should put me a well under 300 a month for 36 months. I figure a nice car for 9k is do-able.. Now I wish I would have hung on to mine

It seems like good condition f-bodies have kind of raised in value.

I see a lot of total POS's for real cheap. . . . But, nice low mileage(under 80k) ones are right at 10k.

I got mine over 2 years ago with 60k for 7 Grand, now it kind of seems hard to find.

Depends on your location. Here in 'Cali, F body's may as well be considered new, they're so goddamn expensive. In other parts of the country there are GREAT deals to be had. Check out autotrader.com and see what's out there.

If I were you though, I'd be looking at an LS2 GTO...

I bought my current 02 SS for $11,500 with 43K miles.

Only thing it needed was new tires.

There are pleanty of good deals out there.. Especially if you're looking in the 100K mile range.

I am really considering selling my z. . . . If I did I would have enough cash to buy a house out here in AZ.

It sucks, I love my car. . . . But, with what f-bodies are going for, I know I can get what it is worth.

98 with 70 or so k in 99.9% mint shape with bolt on's and sub-frames. I say I can get 12k or real close.

People are starting to notice that for lets say 10k or so, you can not touch a 12-13 second stock car. F-Bodies are the ****. . . . . That's why I don't want to let mine go, even if I have 2 other cars and I never drive it.

Only thing to remember is, a "good deal" is very dependant on where you live.

An excellent condition 10 year old car isn't hard to find in the south and southwest. But they aren't nearly as plentiful in the rust belt states, so we pay a premium here.

It seems that TAs are holding a better resale value than any of the F-Bodys, with the Z28 seeming to be the lowest. As mentioned, good deals depend on the area and what you determine to be a good deal.

I'm prepping mine for sale shortly. '99 Z28 M6 with 81K for $8500 (stock).

I guess that's to be expected though. A WS6 was about 25% more than the average Z28 when they were new, and about 35% more than a stripper Z28. So one would expect the resale values to also show a similar gap.

Plus I would imagine a little of it has to do with Pontiac closing up shop and the Camaro being released again.

My buddys mom is selling my 99 Trans Am for $8500. Has a rebuilt LS1 with less than 500miles on it. Speed Inc built 4l60e with a 2800 tci stall, 5000 miles on it, rear end was rebuilt 40,000 miles ago. New black 18" wheels with the deep chrome lip and new tires! Less than 2000miles on them. I blew the engine and she bought it from me, rebuilt it and trying to sell again. I would buy it back in a heartbeat buy alas too many bills . I can email photos if interested.

Prices did go up, in 06 07 I forgot which.. I got my bone stock 98 trans am 6 speed with 70k miles on for 7800.. This year I was trying to find my buddy one and it seems ******* $8000 will get you a 98 6 speed with 100k, well MAYBE 6 speed. No one wants the autos, so they can be had for cheap yet but 6 speeds it seems almost impossible to find under 8 for a trans am. Even camaros went up in price, you just can't find fbodys in the 60-80k mileage range for under 8k as a 6 speed anymore, not sure why.

Not around here. I don't really see much difference in price between the two. M6 isn't as popular in a big crowded city I guess.
