Default These Cars just Suck in plain English

When GM made these cars fbodies from 98-02 they gave them every cheap part in the book. I believe everyone that bought these cars new got ripped off from them. A 10 bolt that cant hold any power, cam retaining plate that grinds metal shavings in oil pump just over all cheap materals used for these cars. I put so much money in my car just to make it run right and nothing else but problems from 1 to the next it is sickening. Anyone else feel this way???

they are 17K new cars, you have to remember that, even though mine stickered at 32-33K, it is still a 17K firebird with lots of options.

I think bitching about 8-12yr old cars is as useless as **** on a boar hog!! But everyone's entitled to their opinion.

Interior= Cheap
Factory audio= Cheap
Driveline= Cheap
Motor= World Class

Yes, looking back, these things were pricey for the interior quality.
But the fun to dollar ratio is/was unmatched.

I've had mine for 8 years since ordering it.
No regrets really. I have had gear whine since day one that I only made
worse by adding a rod end torque arm.

It isn't aging that great inside but it is still a fun car.
Maybe I'm getting older but they aren't that comfortable for dd purposes . . .

Shoulda bought a G8 GXP but 40K was a bit much for me

Of course its gonna be cheap, but you couldn't get a BMW that fast, same year, for the same price.

I mean do you do your maintenance? Are your shocks non-OEM? (OEM are awful). Subframe connectors are a big must for these cars too, they twist like pop cans.

And if you had a gear whine since new you should have taken it back to get fixed from the get go.

Wow, you must have bought some beat up examples or you pound the heck out of them expecting no problems. I've bought two new F-bodies, my first a 1996 Formula in July '96 and I loved them both but I also don't relentlessly punish them. If I did I would expect parts to break and failures here and there. I don't know of any cars that can take punishment without repairs, even the most expensive cars out there. I feel I did not pay too much, even for my $33,000 list T/A convertible. It is 9 years old now and I have had zero issues. Sorry you aren't happy with these cars. Most of us love them.

My 98 Formula was 23k brand new....I got it in 02 with 50k on it.

Ran low 13s bone stock

Never had any motor issues 115,000 miles

4l60e had 6+ years of drag racing/street racing no slipping and no other issues.

I have over 400 time slips running 13.4-12.1 with bolt ons.

Only thing I broke was a set of 3.73 gears which were setup wrong and I was cutting 1.51 60` the night they broke.

As for maintenance 1 headlight motor and 2 window motors.

Besides the interior being cheap...yea that was GM back then...

I don't know what you're trying to accomplish by crying about LS1 cars on an LSx enthusiast forum..

Since I joined this site about a year ago, one of these threads pops up about every 3 months. I guess Im the only one that doesnt feel that my cars a pos or has cheap interior. Have you ever had another car? I mean really? They all have problems, they all have things that could have been better. If you dont like it, sell it and buy something else and quit your bitching.

I think they are very reliable, very powerful, cars for the money-especially for alot of us buying used ones for low dollar. Hell i paid 4k$ for mine- it has high miles but runs and sounds awesome, is fast, and i like the interior of my ta. Talking bad about em, is like talking bad about my family. I DONT LIKE IT!

I've had my 98 since 2006. I bought it completely stock, and I'm the second owner of the car. It has some minor bolt ons now, but for the most part, its still stock. I just rolled over 140k miles in it last week and the only thing I'd consider selling it for is a C5 Z06. (the C6s are nice, but I like the looks of the C5 more)

I don't know what you're complaining about. The power windows only go out once a year. The turn signal might sound like a twig snapping every time you use it, but it doesn't actually snap. Well, mine quit working, but that's because I use it too much. The 10-bolt holds power just fine for the stock automatics and there were more automatics than manuals by a long shot. You can't even hear the squeaks and rattles when you turn the radio up as long as the speakers still produce sound. If the speakers quit, they go out one at a time. When they're all out, the sewing machine sound coming from under the hood is normally loud enough to cover the rattles. Oh, and having to put an extra quart of oil in every 3,000 miles is helpful; let's you know how many miles you have on the current oil that's still in the motor (and intake). So, quit your bitching.

Got a 144k on my 2000 ls1 z, bought it brand new. No complaints here, has responded well to everything ever modded on it, was my dd and bracket racer for 6 years without a hiccup!

ok, a Z28 in 1998 was around 25k....

so lets make it "nice" for you.

factory 12 bolt, nice leather covered plastic, supreme carpet, better clutch...etc.

now your at almost 40k.

now here 13 years later, that seems like a decent price, but in 1998-2002, nobody would pay 40k for a Camaro. sorry...quit bitching or sell the damn thing.

you have to remember, that GM isint into building cars that last 100+ miles, they build a car around the warranty. the 10 bolt and everything else on the car only had to outlast the 3year 36k mile warranty. and thats how people make money. plain and simple. GM isint here to build race cars, they make cars that make money.
