My car currently has mid-lengths, Y, and flowmaster without cats. The headers are old and are starting to leak. Also it is just to loud for my taste.

I'm thinking of replacing the mids with long tubes, do the ceramics last any longer than the painted? I will also get a new Y pipe.

I know the Magnaflow flows better than the Flowmaster but how much quieter would it be? I want the best flowing muffler and it to be quiet, the dronemaster is getting old. Can I have a somewhat quiet car without running cats? Thanks for the responses.

Magnaflow is QUIET!!!! Even w/ longtubes it's quiet until WOT!

So, if you want quiet driving around town, then LOUD at full throttle, go magnaflow. Magnaflow was too quiet for my taste, so I went BorlaMouth.

The magnaflow is defiantly quieter than the flowmaster. This is the change that I just did and I also have long tubes and an off road y-pipe. I think that the magnaflow sounds a lot better and is defiantly nice to drive down the freeway with compared to the flowmaster. Once you jump on it though I think that the magnaflow has a deeper and better sounding tone and is just as loud as the flowmaster and it does not have any of the rasp that the flowmaster had.

Is the SLP powerflo 3"in/dual outs the quietest or is it a magnaflow? I probably won't be going with a $900 header, thats about what the car's worth.

If your car sees snow or rain, I would go with stainless headers over the ceramic coated. If not the ceramics should hold up much better than uncoated ones. A Magnaflow muffler sounds like what you are wanting, quiet most of the time, but sounds great at WOT

Love my Magnaflow, I can hold a conversation or talk on the phone, then sounds great when I wind it up.

Sounds like Magnaflow is the answer for you. The old SLP dual/dual would be even quieter, but I don't know if the newer "powerflo" is comparable to that. Hooker and Random Tech would also being on the quieter side, as compared to what you have now.

However, I disagree with the poster that mentioned Magnaflow being as loud as Flowmaster at WOT. I've had all these mufflers in the past, and Magnaflow is never as loud as Flowmaster 80-series (the crossflow muffler), under any condition.

i also think it sounds like you want the magnaflow. i've had the flowmaster, the magnaflow (and hell, i've even had the midlength headers) and the magnaflow is quieter and without the drone. here's an OLD video of the sound with the magnaflow and catted mac y pipe. my mac mids eventually had holes rusted through, so they're gone.

I have lpp longtubes and loudmouth 2 - possibly the best budget setup out there.... its quiet and doesnt drone on the highway or part throttle.... but at WOT its loud

Get Hooker exhaust. It sounds awesome at WOT and is actually quiet the rest of the time. I had LT's with no cats on mine

^^ I have that same setup and its really not that loud when driving around normally. I can have a conversation with my gf or anyone in the car, when were cruising around or on the highway with no problems. The drone really depends on what speed your going, i get more drone at 80mph then i do at 75mph but can still talk. When i get on it, then its really loud and will turn some heads. I can deal with the rasp though, doesnt bother me as much. Maybe when cammed, it'll get to me but for now. Its no biggie.

I plan on changing the exhaust though, ive had the Lm2 on both my camaros. its time for a change, maybe ill try the powerflo without the muffler in the i-pipe.

Yeah, it's deep and manageable when you're driving around town, and there isn't that much drone w/ LM2, but the rasp from 2200-4200 is UNBEARABLE! At least w/ my setup it was...

Living in an area that is prone to rust, I'd recommend Magnaflow stainless system. For headers, you could go with anything stainless, including the ebay headers, American Racing headers, and Kooks (to name a few).

I personally have AR headers and a Magnaflow catback, none of which has been installed yet...

I agree with the stainless headers. another good think about the Magnaflow is its also stainless.

i DD'd my car for 1 1/2 years and after the first winter, the coated pacesetters were rusted pretty good. i had the TSP TD's that were "aluminized" and held up a lot better than the coated headers. if you search around on the classifieds, you can ususally find a good deal on used stainless headers and y-pipe. trust me, if you want an exhaust that will last, stainless is the only way to go.

I've had pacesetter LT's, ORY, and LM1 for a few years now. I've done plenty of searching on this topic recently an my plan is to change to a magnaflow and an electric cutout. That way I can have a quiet car upon startup and while leaving the subdivision in the morning and I can hit the switch and open things up when I'm ready to be loud.

Another vote for Magnaflow. My brother and I put one on his 01 WS6 and it was quiet but sounded very nice at WOT. Very inexpensive with great build quality, too. Like others have mentioned, the SLP dual/dual is a great exhaust if you want quiet but good luck finding one. Mine came stock with one and it flowed well but the Magnaflow sounded better at WOT. Just about any exhaust will flow better than your Flowmaster but it sounds like Magnaflow is exactly what you're looking for.

That's because you have cats. Dual/dual without cats will sound better than Magnaflow with cats.
