Default whine and bitch session

Here is my whine and bitch of the day.

Why do people post their car for sale talking about how rare it is, thinking it should be worth more money, but they have modded the crap out of it? Isn't it too late at that point? After you yank the motor and put in an rebuilt whatever, its too freaking late people. Who gives a **** if the only original thing on the car is the vin number and door sticker proving its a true 1 le ss rs formula firehawk ws6?

any one else?

They're probably just trying to talk it up, knowing that there are clueless people out there that'll buy into their b.s. and therefore buy their car. I suppose if I was selling something I'd build it up better than it actually is or even worth...

I agree but I don't think about it too much anymore. After talking with far too many of these type owners at car shows and events I have learned that, in most cases, it is just them not understanding the 'collector' market. These folks just can't fathom that mods hurt collector value in many instances. They will live and learn at 'selling time'. Then they will 'get it' . It is also the same with sellers that have 75,000 miles on their '02 CE cars and wonder why they can't get $20,000 for it.

I just face it....... I'm married to the damn car.. I bought it for $21k back in Jan 2003 one owner with $17k on it, but it's only got 59k miles on it now and only worth ~$6000 KBB. I MAY be able to ask $10k for it to an enthusiast, but I'll get talked down. I just decided not to sell it and just to keep throwing money at it.. It's my hobby and I love tinkering with the car.

This.

People who talk about "collectible and rare" f-bodies make my head hurt. Who gives a **** that it's "rare"? It's never going to be worth as much as they think, and sure as hell won't be following the financial path its aging cousins from the 60s and 70s have taken.

looks like some of you get it. what i'm getting at though is why state its a rare or special model car if its no where near original? at that point, its just like any other car.

still. none of these cars imo with a few exceptions demand a high price. i mean an ls7 powered fbody would be real cool to own. i might pay a little more for something like that if it was in great condition.

To me what makes an Fbody rare these days is not what color or options it came with, but rather the condition and mods. Finding a mint, bone stock Fbody is getting harder and harder, and one with low mileage is near impossible except for a few "showroom" type cars being sold at dealers. And the right mods can help with value, as well. Things like a cam and bolt-ons are fairly cheap in the scheme of things while parts like heavy duty aftermarket rears or freshly rebuilt T56's can help increase what you can ask for a car since people know they might have to replace the stockers not long after they get it if they're still on the car. Combine the right mods with excellent condition and even higher mileage isn't usually seen as a big deal.

But to answer your question, people do what you're talking about because some people care about rarity of a vehicle and the seller either a) knows this and is trying to get more money, b) cares about rarity themselves and it's something to brag about, or C) a combination of a and b.

Nice Frank Rizzo name drop. The only rare F-body I know about that's held decent value is the '89 Turbo Trans Am. I see those things up on ebay selling for 10k+ all the time. Many sellers like the ones you describe are just in denial because they're too deep $$$ into the cars.
Those guys are right up there with the people who list the car like this:
KBB Retail: $8000
Exhaust: $1000
Lid: $100
Stickers: $50
Total asking price: $9250 NO LOW BALLERS THIS PRICE IS MORE THAN FAIR FOR WHAT I HAVE INTO IT!
