For a 4L60E I would have to say not needed, plenty of guys out there putting out good power without a shift kit of any kind. Trans Cooler is a MUST though. Just my 2 cents though, I'm sure someone will come in here tell me wrong though.

Problem I encountered with a shift kit is no tranny shop in town wanted to disassemble a 100k tranny and install the shift kit without doing a $1k refresh to it. I had my tuner bump my line pressure some to make the shifts firmer and I have been happy ever since. You have to be careful bc you dont want to run too much line pressure. I also had the torque management deleted.

No, it's not required.

You will get a lot from just having the trans settings
adjusted - PCM controls the shift pressure and so on,
and the factory tune is all about economy leaving a lot
of shift speed & firmness on the table. People have
asked me if I had a shift kit, feeling how mine shifts.
But it's only been tweaked to suit.

Isnt that a no no if we increase line pressure and delete TM at same time on our cars? Are you able to read what kind of pressure is in the lines?

Personally, I wouldn't want to totally delete TM on a stock trans, I would just reduce it some. And line pressure can be raised just a bit, but again I wouldn't crank it up much with a stock pump.

Aftermarket built trans' are a different story, and builder dependant.
