Is the LS1 market still strong?
I have been out of the LS1 world for a couple of years now and just purchased a 02 SS M6 unmolested. I am going to do the basic bolt ons right now and build a 408 with a direct port kit (hopefully). I was wondering if companies are still introducing new products or still mainting the market with the ones they have?

It will be strong for a long while, since they still use ls motors in the brand new cars, from 97 to current are all pretty close to being the same, newer ones are just more cubes and better everything else

They just came out with the new FAST 102.. Still aftermarket heads and cams coming out regularly etc etc..

I think IMO, now that ford has the new 5.0 putting out almost as much power as the 6.2 gm engine, GM will probably start designing a new engine with less displacement and more power. unless the new engines are still LS based, the new design (if its even a possibility that that is an option) may obsolete the Ls series engines in the near future, but as far as aftermarket parts availability for the ls engines, I don't see that dying out any time soon.

Just two different ways to go about it. Multi valve vs. displacement; both seem to work and both companies have paid their initial r&d cost on the platforms.

The new 5.0 may make as much power as the new 6.2 but the 6.2, well all the Lsx 5.3-7.0, has a smaller foot print; other words takes up less space in an engine bay. Also the 5.0 just became real competition, and the LSx engines will be tuned to either compete or beat it's power out put.

We've gone completely backwards, now gm needs a BIGGER supercharged engine to keep up and/or outrun the mustang with a smaller N/A engine.
I think they should go back to the 5.3 platform,ls3/l92 style rectangular port heads and supercharge it.
