Those with 180o Tstat, what temp does ur car really run at?
Hey guys. I installed a Mr. Gasket 180oF t-stat. My tuner programmed my low-speed fans to come on at 180oF, and my high speed fans to come on at 187oF. Well even with the high speed fans on continuously, the motor cant seem to go below 190-192oF. Im gonna have to get my tuner to up the high speed fan turn on because its constantly running. Anyone else have this issue? Is Mr. gasket just a low flowing t-stat or something? I believe its made by motorad, and the construction looks decent.
I made sure to bleed the cooling system really good, as I just installed a bran new acdelco 04+ waterpump with the revised inlet housing. Does this newer designed waterpump flow a little crappier then the older design? Just cant figure out why this tstat barely maintains what my stock 187oF tstat could maintain!

A 180° t-stat will not maintain a regular 180° engine temp under most conditions. If it's rated at 180°, then it will not be fully open at that temp. It would have to be extremely cold outside for the engine to maintain the rated t-stat temp at cruise.
I've run temp logs on both Hypertech 180°F units, and stock 187° units. With a fully warmed engine, I've never seen them allow temps to drop below 190-192° when the outside temp was above ~60°F.
Your current fan settings are not correct for a 180-187° t-stat. The fan should not be cutting on at the temp rating of the t-stat. You need a reasonable window of operation.

Thanks for the reply man, much appreciated. Good to know everything seems ok with the cooling system. Currently I have my low speed fans coming on at 180, high at 187.
Would you mind suggesting good fans turn on/off settings for the low and high speed fans for a 180 tstat? Thanks a tonne in advance!

Personally, I have found that my N/A LS1s run their best overall with coolant temps in the 190-205 range. Changes to ignition timing and/or compression may move that range somewhat. I would pick fan settings that maintain that general range of temps, if it were my car.

Low speed fan on @204°, off @198°
High speed fan on @210°, off @205°
