ls6 in my 2002 Firebird
I am new to this forum and really wanting to get into the car modifying scene. I am only 14 but i am already getting into the cars. I worked for 2 whole summers doing everything i could, even quiting the baseball team last year so that i could buy my trans am. i originally wanted a ws6 but i didnt have the money and my dad told me that i needed to stop working and play baseball again. My dad and i agreed that i could buy a ls6 and over the next 4 years build it up a little bit. Heads, camshaft, intake maniflod, etc. i just wanted to know if anybody had done a l6 build up and swapped it into a firebird. any thoughts.

Yes it is a direct swap. Some 01/02 come with the LS6 shortblock.
If it is indeed the V6, you're going to end up spending more money putting the V8 in there then buying a V8 to begin with.

redtan hit it on the head. If its a 98-02 LS powered car then the LS6 will be a direct swap (but if thats the case why not just build the LS1) If its a V6 save your self the pain and sell the car and get a LS powerd car to start with. Swaping out the wiring, ecu, k member, and other good stuff is not a easy or cheap task.

+1 you can find LS1 F-Bodies in good working order for not much money at all. By the time you make all the effort to gather and spend money on all the wiring, the computer, motor, tranny, etc., etc., you could have probably just bought yourself a nice V8 car to begin with.

my advice would be to wait and if indeed you are buying an ls1 car, build the ls1..unless you are gonna do some serious track days, you don't need to go through the effort to try and track down and shell out the $ for an ls6

Only things special about it are the heads, cam, and the intake. Intake cam factory on all 01-02 LS1 cars. Heads can be had for $300-$500 and when it comes to the cam you'll be better off purchasing an aftermarket one. A cam in the 224-228 range will net you more horsepower per dollar spent and walk all over an ls6 cam in all rpm ranges.

Just enjoy the firebird, they are cool cars. Have fun in school, and save birthday money/chrismas and whatever else you get towards buying a ram air car in a few years. Youll be happier with it and it will be cheaper than swaping an engine into a V6 car.

Last I checked firebird is a model name as camaro. So All T/As, Firehawk or otherwise are Firebirds.
Anyways if it is V6, you are correct and it is better to just get a V8 based car to begin with.

Everyone is right don't work so much that you don't have time to enjoy high school. Although there's nothing wrong with working a full time summer job, and playing baseball. As far as swapping a V8 into a V6 car, is't been done before, but it's really not worth it considering how cheap decent LS1 f-bodys are these days. You'd spend more money on the swap than you would spend on a Trans Am or Formula. Just drive your Firebird as is and don't spend any money on it other that maintenance, repairs, and maybe some minor appearance mods like tinting the windows. If you save your money by your senior you might have the money to trade in your Firebird for a T/A or Formula. And one last thing don't let any of this discourage you from being an active member here on LS1 Tech, your question was more thought out than most threads started by new members lately.

The LSX motor is going to be around for a very long time. There are tons of them out there and more hit the street every day. LS swaps are being done in just about every thing now a days.

Thanks guys I really appreciate the advice and everything. I think for right now I am going to just drive my firebird, v6, and then eventually buy a very nice trans am, Ill be buy cars putting up adds to sale the cars that I buy around my area to make money. Also I will be joining the baseball team next year so wish me luck.
