Default Easy way to avoid breaking your oil pressure sensor during intake swap

Im sure someone else has thought of this, but I've never seen it posted.

Last time I did an intake swap I just removed the oil pressure sensor before I pulled the intake off and then waited to put it back on till I put the intake on.

It might be an extra step, but it saves you from buying a $50 part if you're not super careful.

If I remember correctly, you'll need a 1-1/16 deep socket to get the sensor off. Someone back me up on that though.

Edit: see post 8 to see a better way than ^

A regular deep socket will not fit an LS OPSU as it is too long. Additionally not all OPSU have the nice sharp edges to catch on a 12-pt socket. When I change mine I just pull the intake and valley cover and use a crescent wrench as it take all of maybe an hour to pull it, replace and re-install everything. I don't like buying sockets that have a singular purpose.

Youre right, it is a longer than standard 1-1/16 socket. I found the one I used in my toolbox and it's definitely longer than standard.

I'll always use the socket since I have it though.

I use common sense and pull the brake booster hose over the OPSU before I try to pull the intake. Had my intake off many times and havent broken it yet.

+1 x 20 for the number of times I have pulled an intake without removing the OPSU.

I put a small rubber hose under the four rear intake bolts and pulled forward slowly while lifting the hose over the unit. Easy day

I just did a intake swap and was super careful not to break it when i pulled the old intake off, but somehow when i put the ls6 on i broke it. Had to go get a new one and bought the socket 10bucks. I installed it and left the socket covering it until i was done. Worked perfect.

I just did an intake swap this weekend, instead of removing it I just unplugged it and was able to reach around the driver side and lift up on the big vacuum line port and lift it up the tiny bit required to clear it.

That's how I'll do it from now on.

You could also just drop the socket on it before you pull the intake, the socket would keep it from breaking

Or you could just go down to your local NAPA auto parts and buy the correct thin walled sensor socket.

I Do not understand why you wouldnt just get the socket. I can literally remove my opsu in 2 minutes without removing the intake.
