I've been thinking this myself, Not sure how old they are at least 7 years that i know of and they have held together great. Thinking that has more than pressed my luck. They are dual spring with Ti retainers.. no clue what brand. Probably SLP.

Any siggestions on replacements?

Look into Brian Tooley's springs.

That is an awesome find! Congrats

I know a couple of people have said this all ready but it might be worth changing the valvesprings since you aren't sure how many miles are on them. We carry BTR spring kits and offer an LS1Tech discount! Let me know if there is anything I can do to help!

Disecting it further.. Was replacing the worn valve springs.. found they were bent and distorted. I can squeeze the old springs by hand about 5/8" the new ones barely move past a 1/8"

Cleaned up the pistons, part number says "custom piston"

Cumbustion Chamber, heads say "6.0" in the casting on the underside. So it's a 243 or 317 head?

Now here is where my luck has run out.. valve tip is jacked up on ONE valve. Patriot valves and pretty sure they are out of business. Not sure if I want to spend the money to get a new set of valves as i am sure it's not good to mix and match.

using crud methods of measuring.. it is a 3.999 bore and a 3.995 stroke. Making it roughly a 402. After reading about other similar engines they say the LS6 intake is too restrictive so my theory on the FAST 92/92 picking up more than 15 whp may be more fact than theory.

However there could be a cumulative increase with the new intake, TB, new valve springs. I'm not ready to freshen up the bottom end, so that will be the only thing the same. Except possibly the heads. i might lose power if it's cheaper to throw on some stock heads than buy valves and rebuild these

Nice Stainless valves once cleaned up. Exhaust measured 1.6" exact, intakes I am guessing are 2.08" since they made a 2.02, 2.055 and 2.08

That valve stem tip looked like the way mine was, those springs were the culprit, bet they were patriot gold springs too. Yes they are out of business.

Check your rocker arms, mine had to be replaced.

yes indeed they were. Many of them had a bend/curve in the springs. the one rocker is bad you can see in the pic.

I got a good deal on a set of stockers with trunion upgrades so i am good that way.

Yea I see the little silver circle on the rocker arm. Did the cam get fubared too? I can't remember if you posted it earlier in the thread. My lifters took mine out also, damn the whole top end had to get replaced.

No I was lucky and there is no issues with the cam.

Just got my heads back from getting the valves freshened up.

Ferrea made the patriot valves and they can still be purchaed

I figured i would have my heads flowed while I am furhter disecting this engine because i really hate not knowing what I have.

Turns out these are some pretty good heads. D&E casting the machinist is certain they are 243s. Cumbustion Chamber measured to be a hair shy of 60cc. they flowed extremely well for cathedral port heads.

Forgot to add this was flowed on a 3.910 plate and the engine is a 4.00 bore so maybe they will pick up a little more.

With the help of the for sale section I picked up some new head studs and am ready to get the top end back together.

I also found out what cam the engine is running.

it is an SLP #51013 243/228 .576/.571 113 LSA

248/228 a reverse split cam? Maybe the previous owner was thinking of going with FI in the future.

I've also read this is good for a restrictive intake, however with the FAST 92/92 there should be no such issue.

This is an ok cam for now since i am going to run a 200 shot this year and go for a turbo next year if things don't make me happy with the nitrous
