There are so many opinions on this, and several factors to consider (climate, engine usage, etc.) that your best option is to read the dozens of threads on this topic and decide what you feel most comfortable with.

For many, many years, people defaulted to Mobil1 5w30 as it was OE with the Corvette LS1. You'll find in the links above and with a search there are more and more switching to other types of oil.

Personally, I will be switching to Valvoline 20w50 conventional racing oil at my next oil change.

My SS w/70k just had the bottom end rebuild so I'm using M1 5W30. My Z28 is at 140k w/unopened bottom end and it uses M1 10W40HM. Its not necessarilly what oil you choose, but I would highly recommend sticking with one brand. You can go heavier/thinner between seasons but if you used Mobil, keep using Mobil. Castrol, keep using Castrol, etc. There is NO best of both/all worlds engine oil.

You should read the thread " whats up with comp cams " and then decide.

In regards to oil type, I wouldn't apply the same level of concern to a stock cam as I would to a fast ramp, high lift aftermarket cam. A stock roller cammed engine will do just fine with almost any off-the-shelf oil that is changed at the correct interval for the oil/usage, and is maintained at the proper level.

RPM you're right, for stock motors good old Mobile-1 will work just fine. It is a good read though for anybody thinking about modifying their motors.

All AMSOIL for me. Some people complain about the price, but I'm a dealer and get it/sell for less than other oils that aren't even close to the quality.

You dont even NEED a synthetic unless I am mistaken. To my knowledge most if not all LS1 F bodys were filled with conventional from the General..

This is correct. Only C5s came from the factory with a synthetic fill, although you could order a synthetics package from SLP for SS/Firehawk.

Synthetic isn't required for modified engines either, and just the simple fact of being a synthetic alone won't substitute for inadequate zinc/phos (ZDDP) content for an application in which it's being used.

There are both conventional and synthetic oils that are racing/specialty blends with high ZDDP content for applications requiring such oil. Stock roller cammed applications are not usually examples of such - any off-the-shelf oil should be fine for those.
