Default What are these bolt holes for?

Photo is of the rear corner of a new crate LS3 passenger side cylinder head.
What is the intended purpose of these two bolt holes?

I need a tiny bit more clearance right on the tip of that corner, so I'd like to know if I can grind the top of that corner down by 1/4" - 3/8".
I can't imagine what sort of problem it could possibly cause. I'm presuming there wouldn't be any fluid channels so close to the outer corners like that and that I should have plenty of material, but I'm new to LS's so I better ask around.

The hole arrangement is symmetrical so the heads can be mounted on either side of the block.

Any reason not to grind that corner down 1/4" - 3/8" for clearance purposes?

Mounting accessories and also great for connecting a chain to pull and install the engine.

I typically use those rear head bolt holes for ground straps. The tapped hole on the side of the head is blind at least it is on my L92 heads. Keep in mind the bolt to the right of the red arrow is for a temp sensor so it goes into the water jacket of the head.

Got it. I wont be removing anywhere near enough material to threaten that. If you look at that corner where the 3 edges meet like looking own on the top of a pyramid, I need to trim about 1/4 to 3/8 of material or dimple the chassis bulkhead. I'd rather remove material. I use the inner bolt holes on the heads for the sling.

I'm not familiar with the casting of these heads so I wanted to ask around to make sure there was enough material to grind that "pyramid top" down. I dont need to follow the edge all the way down to the block just need to take the "pointiness" of that corner down a notch so it fits in its soon to be home.

Hard to tell "exactly" how much you are wanting to grind away. Maybe you could use an editor to mark the pic of the area. That way you can receive a definitive response

Agreed...I need to remove the material between the masking tape in first pic .
For reference, also included a pic of where it touches the chassis in second pic.

I don’t foresee this causing you any issues. Your really not removing very much material.

Roger, that is what I figured, but the bolt hole on the exhaust port side of the head made me feel like I better double check before signing up for more than I bargained for.

cut away. You have a lot of material there that you won't get into anything. you have about an inch to play with on that corner. Less at the bottom, but nonetheless, it's thick in that area.
