Default 2000 SS gas tank question

On top of the Camaro gas tank there are two "valves" with tubes. One is white and one is black. The tube from the black one runs to the filter box. I am converting to an external pump drag setup and wonder if I can block off these tubes. I don't know their function. Thanks

EVAP/EMISSIONS so if your capping that off at the intake manifold then they are of no use.

Thanks!
I wasn't sure if I could plug them both and still not have problems filling the tank or building pressure.

You're just going to have a lot of gas smell coming from your tank when it gets hot out. Just keep that in mind. It WILL build pressure if everything is sealed up and you have a good gas cap.

How will it put out fumes if it's sealed up enough to build pressure?

The native state of the solenoid vent valve is open, so it will remain open if wiring is eliminated, and the tank will vent through the charcoal canister. There will be no smell because of the charcoal filter.

3rd gen guys use these 4th gen tanks in their cars this way all the time with no smell. It's not a closed system any more, but you won't smell it parked in your garage.

Dang it!! After the first info, I removed the canister. I blocked the tube from the white valve and used the T fitting from the black valve to attach a 3/8" hose that I ran to my fuel fill. I drilled a hole in the plastic cover by the fill neck and stuck the hose in there. At least it vents outside the car.
I could still attach the canister to the bottom of the body. I may do that. I have plenty of room. Moved the gas tank back 6" to have room to lower the car on a Ford 8.8.

That guy gives answers because it's his hobby to post on this forum, not because he knows the answer.

People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw rocks!

Capping off the port on the intake manifold for the EVAP and leaving the line as is has been done many times over and that's what I was getting at. Not sure why you're referring to my posting as my hobby and that I have nothing of value to share with the community but.once again another wise *** comment from our LS1Tech twerp sitting at his computer.

We definitely have (and have had) some members to whom the above applies, but 01CamaroSSTx is not one of them. His contributions to the site are much appreciated, IMO.

Maybe a different thread would be more opportune time to argue that because, you know ....

Eventually, something will leak.

Thanks for the responses to clear up what I thought ----I may have jumped the gun when I read "they are of no use". Anyway, I can remote mount the canister and hook up a hose. I don't want to drop the tank again. Just got finished re routing the fill tube as the tank is 6" back. Nice to know that I can reduce the gas smell !
Thanks

Sealing up the tank will cause fuel delivery issues and the fill spout will back up and overflow at the gas station. You don't want none of that.
