Default Formula faster than WS6

Bought a 2002 WS6 A4, and recently added an 01 Formula A4, one red one black, both have V8, Ive done some mods on Ws6, Slp lid, cutout, superchip programmer, kn air filter, SFCs, nothing huge, But nothing on the Formula....
For some reason it feels like the Formula accelerates faster than the Ws6, it rides like it it has 76k on it but still hits harder when you mash the pedal, just wondered if maybe a chip or cam or something I can`t see or get to might be making this thing crazy like this, never heard anything from the dealer when I got it, still a newbie, but definitely want to know more!!!!!!!

is the formula a m6 or a4? What tires are on both cars?
stock vs stock t/a's and formuals are equal, if the ws6 is modded it "should" pull harder than the formula.

Fomulas weigh slightly less than WS6's (assuming it is a TA WS6).

There are slight variances in all LS1's and even factory freaks, meaning the car run exceptionally well compared to other stock LS1's. Also, what you feel is the TQ. If it "hits harder" then it may have a higher peak TQ or the TQ curve is not as flat as your modded WS6, making the Formula feel faster.

Formulas weigh a little less than Trans Ams. The huge wing on the T/A weighs more, plus the ground effects, and more if you have the power lumbar seats.

So, equally modded, Formulas should be a little quicker just due to weight.

ayup.

Trans Am is a options package..... you get a TA, and you get leather seats, Ttops, power windows, ect... and on top of that, most TAs have even more options..... this makes it so that a fully optioned TA is the heaviest 4thgen Fbody you could buy.
on the other side of the coin, a minimal optioned formula or a min option camaro could be the lightest stock fbody you would be likely to find on a dealership lot.
you can feel a couple hundered lbs diff in the seat of your pants.

thats true, never thought about the weight difference, to me it feels as though the formula has more power, and the weight could definitely be it, also the wheels on the formy are smaller than the ws6, so they are meatier....good way of puttin it? less tread but more to sink down on. thanks guys, gave me a lot to chew on...

What about the gear ratios? My 98 Formula has the G80 option, with 3.23s. Some A4 TAs and Formulas came stock with 2.73s. Could be what you are feeling.

is there anyway to find out what the physical differences between the two are? you know short of tearing apart the rear end?

The weight difference between a base Formula or Z-28 and a WS6 is only about 75 to 80 pounds. There is something else going on. That is less than a 1/10th of a second in the quarter and or old buttometer would not notice that much. Some cars just run better than others. Also, do they both have stock exhaust. Sometimes senses can play tricks on people. Sound can disrupt your feeling of movement, etc. I remember when gettin my headers, exhaust, etc. and thinking the car felt slower. I knew it was faster mainly because I was spinning through 1st and 2nd but the added sound was throwing me off.

just get a buddy or someone and take both cars out and line em' up out on some back road from a dead stop...do it a few times while switching drivers with cars.

With the cutout open, you're definately going to notice a SOTP drop in low end torque. Whenever I have the cutouts open, I always FEEL slower, even though I'm actually GOING faster.

good deal, gotta wait till I get my P/P throttle body back this friday! slap that on and do the Seafoam deal on the formula and line em up, hopefully the Ws6 doesnt blow a seal again, since the warranty is up.....last time I did the line em up bit I beat his 30th ann camaro through first and that was all she wrote... had to get him to follow me back to the dealership

Formula might have the 3.23 rear gear option and the ws6 the standard 2.73 gears. The 3.23 gears will accelarate the formula faster than the 2.73's in the ws6.
