Default Against my better judgement.

Well I heard about the 0% for 72 that ford was doing for a Labor day sale. Then I saw the 06 Mustang GT was not excluded.

So after checking out the numbers, I figured I could get a brand new GT for what I was nearly paying a month on my 02 Trans Am.

So long story short, I bought a 06 Mustang GT Premium 5-speed and my payment went up a few bucks thats it.

I didn't lose any cash from my car with the tax savings, though I did just put brand new tires on ) Oh well. So that is a little loss. Can't win them all. But I got a great deal on the price of the GT. Took 6 ford stores for them to get down to near invoice, everyone else was Sticker or pretty close to sticker.

The way I see it for a few more bux, I get a car that is four years newer and a full warranty. Sure it prolly won't be as fast as my T/A but that is okay, my T/A is hitting 50k soon. and 13's are 13's.

They did offer me the 435hp saleen package, and that it would be able to put along with my loan. With free money I am thinking about doing it.

I love my T/A, but this was a deal too good to pass up.

How does that MGT compare to the last gen? the 2003 GT I had I didn't like at all.

To be honest, I am quite the mustang person. This is my fifth mustang. And overall it is the best. With the exception of my old 03 Cobra, just due to the beastiness of that car.

It really is night and day.

Nothing wrong with buying a Mustang....but I wouldn't sell my F-body to do it. You shoulda kept 'em both.

Have fun with the GT. Nothing quite like buying a new car.

Good luck getting 13's out of it stock. 2 guys I work with have stangs. One 05 that couldn't do better than 14.4 and another 07 that had a best of 14.08. Both are 5 speed GT's and the 05 is mechanically stock but has appearance mods and 20's and the 07 is totaly stock with 18" wheels. I spanked both with a 12.98 run on a stock SLP 345HP LS1 with only the free ram air and descreened MAF on street tires.

Enjoy!

I love the look of the new s197 GT and they look just as good inside also. Plus they can run pretty good for not a lot of money. 4.10 gears, exhaust, CAI and a tune is all you need and it will make a big difference to how it drives.

Did you get auto or manual as both are 5 speeds?

I have an '06 GT also (5-spd). They are nice cars inside/out, well-built. But, they are TURDS and seriously need some help under the hood. I drove the **** out of mine at the track in warm weather, and the best I could do was 14.0 @ 99 mph. It would run 99 mph like clockwork, very consistent (but slow).

In comparison, my stock 99 T/A ran 13.40 @ 104 spinning. My stock 99 SS ran 12.84 @ 104 with good traction. Both of those cars were 100% stock, similar weather.

Needless to say, a stock 05+ GT would get it's *** handed to it by any stock LS1. They are a better race for stock LT1 cars.

I wish we had bought a GTO instead

Nice pickup, and it's nice that the monthly payments are only a couple bucks more. However, my only question is: how much longer is the loan?

Personally, I CANNOT wait until I pay off my car. I bought it last November, started payments in January, and will probably be done paying it off in January. It's going to be glorious not having car payments...

I have seen s197 stangs pull 12's with those mods, they do respond quite nicely like you said. And I have personally seen a stock GT go 13.5@103.xx. Same day my stock SRT-4 at the time went 14.1@98.xx But I have seen 5speed auto's run low 14's, and I have seen them well into the 13's. It's all over the board like any car. Just like the SRT-4's I have seen personally anywhere from a 13.6@102 to a 14.5@97. All stock. Same goes for the f-bodies. Sure I know I won't beat LS1's. But I know my mildy modded T/A can't touch a Stage 3 SRT-4. I have tried it. Its not close on the highway.

Point is, there will always be someone faster. If I wanted all out fast, I would have sucked it up and bought a 03-04 Terminator. I am pretty sure I will get 13's out of my GT stock.

I went 13.2@106 with my mach 1. And 13.5@107 in my T/A.( I was launching very lightly, pretty much bogging it) Didn't want to blow the rear.

Thanks for the GL and to answer the questions.

It is a 2006 Premium 5-speed Manual
Screaming Yellow
Ebony Interior

And my payment was for 60 months on my T/A so I only went one year longer.

And remember money spent today is more expensive than the same money with no juice over a 6 year time frame.
