Default A few Fbody's (and other Americans) in the UK.

Went to a American car meet yesterday, got chance to see some nice American cars. Don't usually see too many together in the UK.

The blue z/28 is mine. There was a nice red LS1 there also. I'm told there's a few more LS1's but as it's winter not so many are the roads at the mo.

I do really love the look of the 3rd Gens though, could well be tempted to get one.

Had to kid you on this one...

This isn't an American car Toyota might think they're one, but nope!

Now this must be a UK Ford? I haven't seen one of those here in the States.

Yeah that's a Ford Sierra P100 pickup. Usually had either a 2.0 8v engine or a diesel in it.

The Sierra is probably most well known for it's Cosworth variant:

The one last night had a Chevy SBC with a Roots blower. Don't know much about it though. While I respect it, it's not really my sort of thiing.

In the US the Sierra was rebadged as the Merkur XR4TI. Only available with a turbo 2.3 here, however. In the UK they had 5.0's in them.

No sadly not.

The Sierra was just a commonal garden every day saloon car. (Family sedan). Nothing special, 1.6 OHC was the smallest engine, plus 1.8 and 2.0 vairant. None very powerful I think the 2.0 8v (Pinto engine) had 115bhp.Deisels where also used.

Biggest engine was the 2.9 litre Colonge V6 in the XR4i and the XR4x4 (4wd). It wasn't a bad engine and it bases is still used today in the 4.0 V6 Mustang. But it's heavy under powered lump. The 2.0 16v Cosworth turbo unit was much lighter and a lot more powerful. The RS500 was devised to beat the Rover SD1 (3.5 V8's) at touring car racing. Which it did, and then went on to be a pretty decent rally car with 4wd, competing in Group A.

The V8 ones where from S. Africa I think called Pirana. They also made 5.0 V8 Capri's. The V8 conversion is popular over here with hot rodders, although most usually plumb for the aluminium Rover V8 instead (cheaper and parts more plentiful over here).

Looks like they like the Astro van over there. I restored two Triumph motorcycles, a 69 T100R and a 76 T140V in my younger days. I miss the 750 Bonnieville a lot I might try to buy it back, the only thing I don't miss is the Lucas electrical system. Which reminds me of two sayings we had over her concerning Lucas:
Lucas Electronics-Pioneers of darkness
Why do the brits drink warm beer? They have Lucas refridgerators.

Where in England are you from? I was born in Reading in 85, and moved here in 97. I'll be back in London in about 10 days for a business trip!

Strange... I could have sworn I had seen a few Sierra's with 5.0's but apparently they must have been engine swaps. Funny they use the Rover engine, as it's actually designed by Buick. Talk about cross breeding.

Yeah, well the Ford vs GM thing doesn't exist over here. In fact until recent GM didn't exist over here at all. They may own Vauxhall but thats more recent. So rodding and modding motors is usually about taking the best and most available parts.

Ford Pops (Populars) are one of the most common car to Rod. Usually using either a Rover or Chevy V8 with a Jaguar IRS.

These are Euro spec models. Mainly the same as US spec but EU regs require folding mirrors. And a few other changes for type appoval such as different headlights, side lights, side repeaters, rear bumper, rear light cluster.

They're not imported. lol

They have been on sale here for years, since before the face lift model. They are badged as Chrysler. And sold side by side with Jeeps, and now the 300c. Sadly we don't get the SRT-4 though, only a 2.0 16v n/a.

It's an even BIGGER cult thing over in Japan. Who says we couldn't sell any domestic product over there (if their markets were as wide open/bent over as ours are )??
