Default boosted 3.8L or swap?

ok guys, i miss my 98 z so i decided to look around for some f-bodies and found a deal on a 98 v6 bird with 92000 on it and was wondering if i should boost it for now or go ahead and swap it to an ls1 or 6.0L?

you mean S/C like in the GTPs? if so....NO! go to the LS1 for sure. Apparently some of the internals of the 3.8 are different from s/c to non. I have a GTP presently, does the job, but needs more ooooommmmpppphhh!!!

am i missing something? there are some pretty good deals on ls1 cars right now. i, personally, would look for one that already had one. i guess tho, it would be a good sleeper. anyway, to answer your ?, i would go with the swap, not boost.

I'd say to search for a deal on and LS1 and then, boost the LS1

Buy a factory LS1, you will get more money out of it in the long run and it will be cheaper and less of a headache. Personally if i went to buy an LS1 and the title said it was a v6 swapped to an LS1, i would end all possibilities of me buying it. Regardless. And i'd be very willing to bet this is also going to have worse market value ( same as any V6 regardless of the swap. ) Just my two cents.

What are your goals? What is your motivation for keeping the V6? Are you going to be doing all the work yourself?

yes everything will be done by me and friends. there was really no reason to keep the v6 just an idea i had. i will be flat broke by the time i start the swap on my blazer and i need another DD to drive and what more could i ask for than a 98 f-body for 1500. it will just be a project after the blazer is done.

Ok, so there isn't any goal. Just another project for cheap.
After adding up everything you'll need for the swap, you will probably find the swap isn't that cheap and will inevitably cost more than the car.
Going forced induction is never cheap either. I have to admit, I like the idea of the V6 with a turbo. Something different. I say go for the turbo V6. Or maybe a V6 Naturally Aspirated build to keep it cheap. Higher gears, lumpier cam, Cold air kit, and ported heads would make for more power. NO2 is your friend for cheap power.

If you're looking into boosting a V6, go to www.fullthrottlev6.com and look under the F/I and nitrous section. You can get near 300hp on stock internals with a good tune and playing smart with the boost. Procharging them doesn't seem to yield a whole lot of power, except for Pathogen, but she's been at that game for quite awhile.

For the unique factor, I'd go for the Turbo V6 but in the form of twins and not a single turbo. That's what I'd do if I just wanted to drop some cash into my car and go down the path less traveled.

what i was gettin to on this was my origional idea was to buy a square body s10 and put a 350 in it and build it to be a show truck but alot of my friends have fbodys and it made me miss mine and i happened to find this deal shortly afterwards. my goal with it is to build it, i was kinda gettin the feeling that some of yall were thinking i was just gonna leave it a stock v8 swap.

the only thing that even matters is that you are happy with it. seems like you are getting a pretty good deal on the v6 and you aren't asking if you should buy it and swap motors vs. buying a stock ls1. since that isn't the question, then i would say do whichever will give you more power for the money. if you do the swap, then you will have to do the guage cluster, k member, wiring harness, etc... that is all money that you could put towards other mods.
