Well, I am still in school and my dad has been a mechanic for 20 years, so he obviously has his own shop with tools, lift, etc. So I do my own wrenching.
This is only because pops has a shop for me.
So I wanted to know those of you that do your own work, how do you do it?
Do you have a shop, do you do all the work at your house? If so does your house garage have a lift and all the goodies.
Just wanted to get ideas for the future.

I do all my wrench work except for the big stuff like mounting tires and alignments. I just have a floor jack, 4 jack stands, a large compressor, a set of Snap On tools and some air tools. Has gotten me by really well.

I have a house I rent with 2 roommates. So when I have to work on the car I pull one out. I have a set of jackstands, a jack, and started with a tool set from Wal-Mart. Just bought tools as needed when doing different jobs. I do my own research from sites like this for car-specific jobs and teach myself. I'm the only LT1 owner around that I know of

ive done it in the dirt "driveway" under the shade of a tree.
ive done it in a single car garage that wouldnt even let both doors open (you had to part to the side so you could get out)
ive done it in a apartment parkinglot
ive done it in a carport at a friends house 30+miles away (after being banned from the aforementioned apartment parkinglot)
and now.. finally.. after doing it in crap places all my life..... i have a nice large 2 car garage to work in. i drove my car in there last thursday.
so far, i havent touched it since. LOL.

I have been so spoiled with a lift. I keep thinking how awesome it would be to have a lift in a house garage. But then again. Most house garages the ceiling is not high enough to do that.

I used to live in a crappy apartment, so I had to do alot of work in the parking lot. Anyone that has had to do this can tell you that it is not fun. I would battle freezing conditions, rain, darkness-not fun. Sometimes I would go to a friends house to use thier garage, but this wasn't always available if the car wouldn't run. Now I have my own house and two car garage, so I never take it for granted. I encourage everyone that has a garage to let the less-fortunate people out there use it when they need a place to work. It always meant a lot to me...
