Including the cost of the car:

if you want to go fast for less get the LS1.

Well if your using that logic, then buy an old Mustang 5.0 LX. Or better yet, buy a salvage title Mazda Miata, and drop a Ford 5.0L engine in it.

Yea but they aren't using that logic. They are comparing cars that they feel are both desirable in performance and looks; which is where your logic is incorrect, because the looks of an old mustang lx or a miata = .

If he can afford it I'd start out with the fastest stock platform and go from there.

assuming the car will be a dd

I don't know about that, for me anyway....9 times out of 10 that I use the steering wheel controls it has been accidentally skipping songs and radio stations, or muting when I'm just trying to drive ha.

Edit: though it does look fancy cool, having lighted stuff on the steering wheel, especially when turning the wheel fast

I like the looks of both cars, but, I would personally go with the LS1 camaro knowing that I can toss in 400+ci stroke out Ls motor. Probably be way more expensive than to modify a 03/04 cobra, but I'm picky when it comes to making power.
