DA = Density Altitude. The lower the DA, the better air quality for making power. Here's a quick & easy calculator: http://wahiduddin.net/calc/calc_da.htm

click on the National Weather Service link under the calculator and you can find current weather conditions for your area, and that'll give you the numbers to enter into the calculator.

the more negative the better

think of it as feet above or below sea level, obviously the air is more dense down at sea level and just keeps increasing the lower below sea level you get

so to answer the question a -1201 DA is better than a -150 DA

Generally, the lower the humidity, the higher the barometric pressure, and the cooler the temps (to a point, too cold and NO tire will hook, and your engine could actually lose power), the better (more negative) the D.A.
The calculator supplied above is one of the best tools to use, unless you have a TAG handheld D.A./weather station right at the track with you (or know someone with one, or just go ask one of the 7-8 second Pro Mod cars running [they ALL have them!] for the current D.A.).

Keep in mind that as it gets colder & the DA goes down, the pavement also cools and traction starts to get hard to come by.....more power + less traction = not the best ET's.
