Default car for the g/f

well, she is saving up her money, and wanting to buy a 98+ TA or Camaro z-28 or SS, she is looking at putting a down payment on it of around $6k or so, I will help her what i can with payments and insurance, and of course, shes going to bracket race it with the rest of my family lol, she is clearing around $500 a month during the school year and will be a lot more during the summer, so what kind of options do we have as far as what she wants?

Put down $6000 on a $12000 dollar car (similar to mine).

You will owe $6000. Finance it for 2-3 years.

Payments should be around $200 or less each month.

Your own your own with insurance though! (hint: get a quote from Geico)

I financed $7500 for 3 years and my payments are $233 /month. I dont make much more than your girlfriend either.

Hope this helps

Yeah that sounds right. I remember seeing some polls about what owners on here thought. Most of them had said that they would have preferred to get a car with less options for much cheaper to put more mods on their cars. Maybe you'd have more fun finding an 8000 dollar high milage car and doing mods? Just a thought if she is going to bracket race.

I'd find something cheaper, always deals if you look around enough.

I hear ya, theres no reason to be afraid of high mileage. High mileage cars need love too!

When I was 15 years old... my first car was a 1993 Camaro Z28 LT1.
I bought the car with 92,000 miles. This was my daily driver for about 6 years.

I drive the thing all over the country and the LT1 didn't let me down.

Other than the transmission problems (from drag racing), the only thing that happened was the waterpump went out and killed the optispark. Luckily, I was just a few miles from the house and I got towed rather cheaply.

yep, if its possible to do so. i had a $6,000 down payment on a 2000 ws.6 that I bought for $12,200. my payments are $176/month for about 3.5 years.
BTW I noticed camaros seemed relatively cheaper when looking for cars as opposed to T/A's

I got my 98 Z28 with just about every Z28 option, and 106,xxx out the door for $7500.

Sometimes I get a little envious of the badass SS's and WS6's.. but I most likely paid less than half as much, and it's a very nice car for the money. Best of all, I own the car and don't have to worry about payments, as I own all my cars

hey if you look hard enough you can find a good deal on most cars. I got my 98 Z28 with 70,000 miles on it for 7500. Payments are a bitch I'd try to buy cash and get a cheaper car

Im looking to get one too and im going to wait a year till school ends to buy mine even if i have half of the money...its always a safer choice, its hard to wait a year, but if things go wrong, you could end up with a big problem. Thats my 2 cents.
