Default Free mods..

I'm heading to the track tomorrow, and I was just wondering if there are any free mods I could do before I went. I have a 98 Z28 A4.

i've seen someone take their p/s belt off and put a smaller serp. belt on and took off .3 in the 1/4. i haven't tried it out but am thinking about it.
also, on the show horsepower tv (i think) they had a SS M6 they did a before and after chasis dyno and gained 8rwhp just by swapping out the engine, tranny and diff. oils with royal purple. not sure what the tq. gain was. not bad. i should have donw that before i had my car dynoed.

if you have a hack saw, you can cut the middle of your MAF ends out and with a tool of your choice (dremel) grind the sides down to smoothen it out completely and hone it if you have access. its worth 1rwhp.

Right now the only thing done to the car is that I cut the factory muffler off the other night and replaced it with a turndown.

I dyno'd my truck last week with a belt that bypassed the P/S and A/C and it was worth 11hp..

Take off your lid/maf and look at the throttle body blade while moving it to wot. On some cars the blade dosn't go to 100% wot because the bump stop is too high. If you cant get 100% wot get out the dremel and grind down the bump stop till you can.

Rather than cramming in last minute mods and risk messing something up in haste, I'd focus on making sure the car is in top shape. Check your spark plugs and make sure they are in good shape and correctly gapped... maybe even replace them if you've got a little extra cash laying around. Make sure tire pressures are good and maybe search to see what most guys run for psi on street tires to get a good launch.

I'd plan on changing fluids either before or after you're done running. Changing before may give a slight advantage and would maybe offer some extra protection. Changing after would get the extra crap out of those systems caused by running it hard. This is probably just being picky anyway since you're running a stock car and not doing anything beyond what it was intended to do.

You may also want to simply run it as it is and establish a baseline of what the car can do now... so you can more accurately judge what if any impact your next round of mods makes. Doing something in haste now (maybe incorrectly) could actually hurt performance rather than help and you wouldn't know unless you had a baseline.

dont mess with the maf maybe descreen it but thats is as far as i would go. port your trottle body. bypass the tb coolant lines helps keep the intake charge a lil cooler. maybe modify your air box but if you do so you will constantly be changing or cleaning your air filter. free mods arent really worth it unless you are on an all out search for hp.

screwing w/ the maf will make the car lean out, and as he mods more and gets around to needing a tune the maf tables are screwed up cause the maf flows more than what its reading, the stock maf is good for 450-500hp, the screen offers the extra protection. do, however port ur TB and do the TB bsm, as for the TB bypass u might not feel any gain but why would u want 200F' coolant heating up air going into ur engine?? do it for the denser air charge. if its .5 hp, so what, its a cheap mod, do it.

also like it was said b4 make sure ur car is ready for abuse. if u take care of her properlly shell put a smile on u everytime. change the oil (i use GC 0w-30) get some fresh plugs(i use tr55) fresh wires(if needed) etc ect ect. the list goes on forever. do it for peace of mind, hell do it if ur bored.
