New Or Old?
Whats up fellas...looking into a T/A now...problem is...I'm on a budget. Insurance is going to kill me...since I'm 17. Last time I had my formula I was working like crazy to pay for the car. But this time I'm in a LITTLE better finanancial shape. So, what I'm really looking to do is get a '95 or '96 T/A...more than likely used with around 1xx,xxx miles, and rebuild the motor and put a performance tranny in. (and rear end) After that, I plan on having some body-work done to make the body look like a '02 model. Then, I don't know...but my question is would be buying a '95 for about $4-5K be cheaper than buying a decently in shape '99 or so for $6-8K. More than likely I'm going to have to have the motor and tranny replaced anyways, as well as suspension and rear end. Any suggestions?

don't get the lt1, pay a few grand more upfront, and be just as fast, if not faster with a stock ls1 than what all you wanna do with an lt1. the lt1 will end up being a moneypit for you, or at least going by what you are talking about doing

Well since I am also 17 I guess I can offer some advice. I think you should go for a decently used ls1 and just put some bolton’s on it and you will be happy. I bought my ls1 for 8 grand and it has 25k miles and is a rare color in great shape so what I am saying is just hold on for a good deal and then put some bolton’s on it and you will be more than happy with the power. Good luck man

Im 18 with a ticket and 2 or 3 points on my liscence. My insurance was 3k every 6 months. Best advice i can give you on that is to call every insurance place possible. After a few months of owning the car i called geico (the one place i didnt call) and now im only paying $1400 every 6 months . Also being on a parents policy isnt always the best choice, it was going to be $2800/6MO on their policy.

You could always do what the kids at my school do, buy an LT1 and talk it up to be god and then when an LS1 rolls by just say " nah my LT1 is faster and easier to work on and less expensive to buy parts for..."
Just kidding get an LS1. Thats a command, they are coming down in price now and the aftermarket is getting huge for our cars. Also with the continuing LSX series of motors performance/ replacement parts are cheap. I'd like to see you buy a good oil pump/lifters/timing chain/heads for an LT1 like you can with an LS1 for the same price.

Listen to me.. I have owned 12 F-Bodies, 6 LT1 cars, They were all good cars only 1 spun a bearing@ 115k. 1 has made to 182,000 with no problems. They were good cars but are alot harder to maintain and work on vs LS1 cars. I say pay a little more for a LS1 car or even a higher mileage LS1 car. My TA has 137,000 miles and its rock solid and still dynoed 332hp with a high stall converter.
