P.s you know some are bsing...300 to the tank...come on...I just dont see it...
Excuse me again. You are begging for a schooling.

I am typical. Sort of.

I have recorded EVERY SINGLE GALLON SINCE PURCHASE! No bsing, get it?

Lets start with the basics:
MPG = The number of miles driven divided by the number of gallons used.

That is why you must fill up and record odometer, drive, fill up and record odometer, subtract first odometer reading from second then divide by the second fill up number of gallons. This will equal the mpg.

This is also the only usefull infomation (MPG). There could be someone who fills up at 1/2 a tank or someone that fills at 3/4. These differences along with different tank sizes make the term "on a tank" meaningless.

So if you use 10 bucks worth at a time you just record the mileage and number of gallons for a long period (say ten fill ups) and then do the mileage based on the odometer reading at the first and last divided by total gallon first through last.

Anyways I've had tanks that were losts of fun 17mpg and tanks that were keeping with traffic on the highway 27mpg.

I mostly go untill an 1/8 of a tank left, it takes 14 gallons and the trip reads over 300.
But the long term average has been 21.9 for 35,000 miles. Understand? No BS just facts.

Over 300 most of the time. I know I almost get 100 miles per 1/4 tank of gas. Would probably be a little better if my car's timing was advanced to stock.

I am getting about 170-190. Given I just got the car and drive it hard sometimes, ok more than somtimes. One of the things I told my g/f when I bought the car is that it gets better mpg than my 89 T/A with 305 TBI. Well that was a lie. The car has 28,xxx miles and a 6 speed with little mods. I don't see how these people are getting 280 to a tank with mixed driving.

Fixed.

C'mon, Ford might be the enemy, but at least they're American.

You've got my vote if you kick those imports out!

Oh, first post.

Formula: Around 210. With contaminated O2's, 150?
SHO: Got 377 this week. If I keep my foot on the gas I don't even get 300.

so I let my car go down to past empty to see how many gallons I would have to put in. I was at 200 miles and it took 14.5 gallons. We have a 16.9 gallon tank right? I used to get 250ish per tank. So something must be wrong with my floater or something right?

George Carlin's Solution to Save Gasoline

I'm sure that there is something wrong with this plan but...

Bush wants us to cut the amount of gas we use. The best way to stop
using so much gas is to deport 11 million illegal immigrants! That would
be 11 million less people using our gas. The price of gas would come
down.

Bring our troops home from Iraq to guard the border. When they catch an
illegal immigrant crossing the border, hand him a canteen, rifle and
some ammo and ship him to Iraq. Tell him if he wants to come to America
then he must serve a tour in the military. Give him a soldier's pay
while he's there and tax him on it.

After his tour, he will be allowed to become a citizen since he defended
this country. He will also be registered to be taxed and be a legal
patriot.

This option will probably deter illegal immigration and provide a
solution for the troops in Iraq and the aliens trying to make a better
life for themselves. If they refuse to serve, ship them to Iraq anyway,
without the canteen, rifle or ammo.

Problem solved.

I know.. I know.. this is going to start a "You don't know what the fvck you're talking about" claims and will probly flush out 'pertrolium market annalysts' all over ls1tech... but...

A short while ago, 65% of the oil and gas in the US came from Canada...

Why are you still invading iraq?

We're not good enough for you?

I'm in Canada, so I don't know how many mpg I'm getting, but on the highway coming back from Edmonton I managed 620KM on just over 3/4 of a tank. That includes 3 days of driving around in the city and 120km/h all the way home (5 hour drive).

I barely sqeaked 700km's total on that tank after a week of driving across GP to work and back plus the odd trip or two downtown for this and that.

Bone stock, 3.23's, A4, 129500km on the dash and plug cats which I found out 2 weeks ago...

In town I was getting 200km/tank over the winter.
Now that its much warmer I'm at 350-380km/tank.. all depends on how pissy I am after work.

I usually get around 215-220 a tank with the mods in my sig but I fill up at 1/4 and never let it go to empty. usually a 50/50 mix of driving and average 17-20 mpg.

Is there really this many people who don't know how to calculate Miles Per Gallon?!?!

How many miles people get to a tank means JACK ****...not everyones tank is going to read the same, and the gauges are not going to be 100% accurate, hell I have had cars that run out of gas when the gauge read's 1/4 tank, and some that can drive with the needle past empty for days and never run out...why? because when your gauge says 1/2 full, it does not mean that you have used exactly half of the gas in your tank, nor does when it says close to empty does it mean your tank is bone dry empty...

The real question for this thread should be, what MPG do you get with your car...

So to make it simple:
1. fill your tank full
2. reset your odometer
3. drive around how ever long you want (drive until the tank is 3/4 full, 1/2 full, 1/4 full...it doesn't matter!)

4.Now go back to the gas station, fill the car all the way full again...Now look how many gallons you just put in.

Ok get in your car and look at how many miles you drove since you last filled...take your Miles driven and then Divide that by the number of gallons you put in your car.

So if you drove 200 miles, and just put in 10 gallons to fill it, 200/10= 20MPG...

I know KENS_SS_4 already went over this up above, but I am just stating it again.

Now to answer the question to this thread the correct way..

With my Trans am the best Mileage I ever got was 31mpg on an all highway trip...so 31 Miles x 16.8 gallons = 520 miles...so in reality if I would have used all 16.8 gallons of my fuel I would have gotten 520 miles out of that tank...But who the hell drives until the tank is dry, no one, I only put on 405 miles on that tank, and then filled it, and it took 13 gallons to fill it up again, so 405 miles / 13 gallons = 31 Miles Per gallon..

Now my Z28 with 3.73's has gotten 28 MPG on an all highway trip, and I have never gotten worse than 17mpg with either of the cars..in all city driving

To anyone who already knew how to calculate gas mileage, this post was not directed at you...for people who did not know how, well now you do, and it is the only thing that actually is accurate and matters when calulating fuel consumption.

End rant..
