buy a decent <50k mile fbody, with the money you save over a GTO build a mean iron block. sell the LS1 and recoup some expense. pay it of in 5-6 years or less and by the time your kids are ready for a bigger seat, you can get mommy her lil vanster. thats would i would do anyway. if money wasnt an issue, 05-06 GTO. all the way.

A friend of mine swapped a LS1 out of his Camaro for an Iron Block LQ9, and he said the same thing.. and his LS1 was Cammed..it's just something about that 4.000" Bore I guess..

Well I have an 02 z28 conv and a 04 gto and I can honestly say that the GTO is my favorite. There are similarities and differences...but the combination of the interior better rearend gears and a lil more power stock...I enjoy my gto more.

If you're looking for 20/28 mpg the f-body M6 is going to get you closest. You lug 300 extra lbs. around with GTO, and even though the LS2 makes up for it with extra power, it'll cost you in mpg. With SFC's, Bilsteins or Konis on the stock springs, and stock wheels, an f-body can feel tight and the ride is very nice. Put down the rear seat and there's plenty of room for all kinds of stuff.

No where near leaps and bounds more advanced than a LS1.
Anyone who thinks the LS2 is "far more advanced" than the LS1, knows nothing about either motor. Does the LS2 make more power? Of course. But that has nothing to do with it's level of advancement.
LT1 to LS1 was a big jump in technology and power. LS1 to LS2 was just a jump in power.
I agree that the LS2 should still be considered a Gen III motor. Not enough difference to warrant being called a Gen IV IMO.

I've rode in both, the GTO's interior looks very nice, it makes my F-body's interior look like it came from a McDonald's Happy Meal. Looks and performance wise the F-body hands down. The LS2 is just a slightly upgraded LS1.
GTO = Better for daily driver car
F-body = Better weekend or street/strip car

In 1998, a Camaro with the Z28 Preferred Equipment Group stickered for $22,046. How many other new cars in '98 could you buy for just a hair over $22k that were any nicer quality than an F-body and could run mid 13s stock? I think the interior quality level in the F-bodies is right on par with where it should be for a car in that price range that also offers such outstanding performance for a stock car.
