Default Car feels.... strange

Okay I have never driven another ls1 automatic so I have nothing to compare it too so I could be out of line here. But when at a stop, and I want to goose it a bit and bark the tires (outa my jurisdiction of course) the car just takes off, tires will hardley spin if at all. Now the car takes off quickly and accelerates fairly hard, but that initial "punch" is not there. Seems as if it does not build rpms fast enough at first or something I dunno. Thought maybe I would post it up and see if anyone had any ideas. My dad thinks it could be a weak torque converter so I am at a loss. Let me know what you think.

yeah mine does or "did" the same thing but after some mods and what not it gives it a little goose from bottom end, gotta let it get to its powerband you know, kind of hard to push all that weight from a go unless powerbraking it or something, try doing around a 5 roll and then punch it and you will notice it ***** n gits and thats because all that weight is rolling equally with the power

So you just want it to chirp the tires at low rpm? Not really gonna happen unless you put some cheap as tires on the car. Next time just try holding down the brake and then rev it up a bit and let go of the brake. The tires will spin some and maybe that will satisfy you.

Maybe thats my problem, I remember the days of my LT1 with the low end. I guess this just means I need to start with some more power mods.

I've owned 3 LS1s with the auto trans, two were 3.23 geared cars and one is a 2.73 geared car. The 3.23 cars will give a lot more wheel spin off the line when stock, but my 2.73 car breaks the tires loose from a dead stop pretty well too.

Not sure what to tell you?

My 98Z28 was like the exorcist when I got it. It had these goodyear eagles on the stock chrome 5 spokes and it would take off smoking the tires and when it hit 2nd the *** end of the car would try to pass you every time. I was scared to let people drive it cause it would have killed them. Sounds like you have some sort of TCS on yours. A lot of these cars came with this option, mine didn't but its a 98 also and I believe you should have a switch probally under your ac vents in the middle of the dash to cut it on/off. If you do it will run like your talking about. You should be able to lite tires at will because the stock stall is something in the 1800rpm range.

Do you have larger diameter tires than stock?
That will make a difference.

Push the ASR button to OFF, if you have one.
That thing will never let you spin the tires. That's what it's for to prevent wheel spin on snow or wet roads.

I dont have any traction control, but then again i dont really mash on it from a stanstill, cause i dont wanna break anything. But my dad had a 2000 SS and it was auto, and i could smoke those tires with little or no effort ( i miss that car), but the explanation on the gearing also makes since.

If you haven't recently I would try cleaning the maf and replacing the fuel filter. Sounds like fuel or air is being restricted a little bit somewhere. Those are two things that can gradually get dirty and gradually sap power until the performance loss finally becomes noticeable at either the top or bottom end.

im still sticking with what i say, also if it was your traction control you would feel the car bog and your gas pedal will bounce up, i hate it, everytime i get in my car i turn it off because i actually find it dangerous having it on

Even with my 2.73s and new 275 KDW tires, I can still break 'em free from a stop without even going WOT. Not as much as a 3.23 or 3.42 car, but still when you shock the tires from a stop they should spin no matter what. (unless you've got 2.73s and seriously big/sticky tires)

Edit: WTF?! We can' t type the acronym for "For The Win" anymore?? I just tried twice, and when I submit, it comes out as three question marks.

Yep, the term was deemed "too homosexual for LS1 Tech". Therefore it has been BANNED for use.
