Anyone Prefer the Plain Styling of a Z28?
I'm looking at getting an LS1 F-body soon. I really like the Trans Am's, but its so hard to find one at a fair price. Lately, the Z28 has been growing on me. I'm kind of warming up to the "plain jane" styling. I'm not sure how to explain it, but I'm current Z28 owners can relate, lol!

Some people may think it's plain. The lines of the Camaro are, in my opinion, very subtle. I think the 4Gen Trans Am, especially the LS1's, are too batmobilish. And that coming from a die hard Firebird/Trans Am fan since I was a kid (now 40).

Being fast, beats looking fast! And attention can be a bad thing w a fast car.

Visually, I must be the most boring enthusiast ever. I have only Camaros, and most of them roll around on stock wheels even. My emphasis is on performance and cleanliness. I like my cars fast and kept as clean as possible. Before I do a mod, I ask myself "will this make the car faster?" So, most appearance mods are out.
I prefer simple, clean lines. I like the Z28 a lot more than the LS1-era TA's, which I feel look too "busy".
I see guys rolling around with a lot of appearance mods, yet every time I see their car it's dirty as hell. I think what's the point? This guy wants his car to look badass (at least according to his taste), but he can't do the basics like keeping it clean and waxed etc. I don't get it.

^ +1. I may be a little biased here but I've always preferred camaro's to trans am's (even though both are nice and TA's are insanely aggressive looking) and z28s to SS's. The spoiler always looked funny to me and and hood seemed to add weird lines. I like them all though, but the simplicity of a z28 really attracts me. When I was looking for a car, I couldn't justify paying a little more for the SS. Personally I'm one to take performance over appearance (even though I will admit my appearance mods are more than performance at the moment). I think z28s are underestimated in terms of looks for the most part, unless of course you're looking for more of a "sleeper" look. In my opinion though, that can kind of be done with anything if done the right way and tastefully. Also, I see that these cars tends to stand out among crowds, z28, SS, camaro, firebird, ta, ws6 etc etc, all of them!

I can relate more than most. I used to be a WS6 owner, but when I started shopping for my third 4th gen F-body, I knew I HAD to have a Camaro.
The Trans Am is very bold and flashy, more like a sports car. The Camaro is more muscle car like to me; cleaner lines and all business. Looks a little more mature to me I guess. (maybe I'm just getting old? LOL)
I really like the front/hood of the WS6 cars (that's the main reason I bought one), but the rear of the Trans Am doesn't do much for me. On the other hand, I really like both the front and rear of the Camaro - and these days I happen to like the Camaro overall just a little more than the Trans Am. Seven years ago I felt different though, but tastes can change as you age.
As for Z28 vs SS, I really don't have a favorite there. The difference is so subtle, that I really didn't care which one I bought. I was more concerned about color, options, and most importantly condition; SS or Z28 was really of very litte concern to me. Only thing I knew I didn't want was the factory ground effects - never been a fan of those on the Camaro.

i like the sleek plain look on a camaro. im not too big on stripes, or anything like that. i think a camaro thats lowered with the right rims looks really good. plain and simple is what i like. i know for sure i would take a z28 over a regular trans am or firebird.

I like the Z/28 from the rear and side better than any other 4th Gen F-body. WS6 Trans Am does have a nice look from the front, as does the SS, otherwise I'll take a standard Z/28.
I did add black Halos to liven up the front of the car a little and I have a LG spoiler(NASCAR style-not pictured below).

I did at one point, which is why I first bought a '97 Z Vert back in '98. I figured then that the T/A was just too much in the way of styling and expression. Fast forward to now and I decided that the far out, plastic body cladding was just what I needed...
